Abnormal bleeding for 8 weeks - Need advice

floridagirl38 posted:
I started having abnormal bleeding around July 1st. I had a normal period in April, but skipped May & June. When I started spotting in July, I thought good my period is starting and I can get back on track. Well that was just the beginning of my nitemare. The first 3 weeks of it was light. I always seemed to start bleeding on a Friday and by Tuesday of the following week it would stop, then resume again on Friday. I managed to make it to a Saturday one week and had intercourse, but about 30 minutes after, I started feeling a great deal of cramping. That's when the bleeding increased to a full-blown period. It has not stopped since. About a month ago I finally went to see my OBGYN and she put me back on birth control pills. I assumed it would stop it within a few days, and it just made it worse. I have been bleeding heavily and have had horrible cramps with huge blood clots. After being on the pills for a full pack, I called my doctor back and she said to start a pill taper. So I took 3 birth control pills a day for 3 days, 2 for 2 days and now back to 1 a day. It seemed to reduce the bleeding a little, but didn't stop it. Now that I'm back to one a day, the bleeding is picking up again. When I asked my OBGYN what she would do if that didn't work to stop the bleeding, and she said I'd have to have a D&C. I became upset when I heard that, because she has done NO testing. I went to see my primary care physician on Tuesday and she took blood for testing and is referring me to a new OBGYN next week. I am so scared, exhausted and upset from all of this I don't know what to do. I am pretty healthy other than have Hypothyriodism (which I've had for a very long time and is very well managed), so I have no clue what could be causing this. I was tested in January for PCOS and early menopause, and was negative for both. My mother had endometrial cancer at 49 and had to have a hysterectomy, so that is a worry. I am only 38 and have not had any children yet, but wanted to start trying to conceive next year. This is throwing a monkey wrench into all of my plans. Can anyone offer any advice?

Hi,

I just registered for this site tonight and just found your posting. I am going through very similar stuff. The difference here is that I also has, but have pelvic pain. Do you? Also, I am quite a bit older than you. I am fifty, and wonder if this is also menopause related. I am scheduled to go see a new doctor in a few days, but I am very stressed out. All if have been told so far is that it is best to have someone to talk to, so now I hope we both have that. I hope you are doing better! Consider me a friend in NJ!

I am had the same problem this past year. I bled for two months straight. The doctor did a D&C on me and found that I had hyperdisplasia (not sure how to spell it) which she told me was due to me being slightly overweight and could be controlled by medication. I would let the OB do one if you think this is what you may have. I know it scarred me to death because I actually went to the hospital with pelvic pain. Turned out to be my appendix but they thought it was my ovaries and thought I was going to have to have one removed. That's why they did the D&C after. The medication did work for me. I hate to hear your going through all this. I know what it's like. I'm only 25 and have all these problems. I am having problems again now. Good Luck I hope all turns out okay for you

Im 32 and i am doing the same thing as u i have been bleedin now for 3 months and counting dr tried progestrone and depo provera shot but nothing has helped or stopped the bleeding. I was referred to a obgyn and now today actually am having a uterine biopsy done because my ultrasound is showing thickness in my uterus that is not suppose to be there... I think u should consider the d&c which is about the same thing as im doing to see what could be causes this they told me it could be 3 diferent things two of which i may need a full hysterectomy..so dont let it just go...

Thats sort of my situation. I'm 23 I've been going to the same obgyn since I was 16 , I had my period for 6 months straight. I've now tried every birth control you could think of , been hospitialized once for my hemoglobin fropping to half of what it's suppose to be and I'm sick and tired of taking birth control. I was also hospitalized once for polycystic cysts on my right ovary but they didnt remove them. Unfortunately I think alot of the poor care I've gotten has to do with me not having insurance. But I'm scared and I don't know what to do anymore. Having my period for months and then it stopping for MAYBE a week and then starting again is literally ruining my life and my health. Its also caused me to be anemic now..

Hello to everyone. I am so upset reading all of these posts, it has been like looking at moments from my own life. I have been going through these problems off and on since I was 10 years old. I am currently 26. I started menstruating when I was 8, and the problems began two years later when I bled for 6 months straight. I was immediately put on an iron supplement for the anemia, as well as heavy birth control to stop the bleeding. Birth control always seems to be the only answer aside from Hysterectomy that doctors can come up with. I would stop taking the birth control when it would seem to be under control, and I would be fine for several months, even a couple of years...then it would happen again. I am married now and would love to have children, but this problem seems to keep me from it. I am in pain almost all the time, and if I am not on birth control I bleed nonstop. They have told me that I barely ovulate, so conceiving is going to be problematic, but if we can, I could have a baby. . .I am beginning to doubt that now, and I feel like I am losing my mind. Thank you all so much for sharing your stories, as reading them has made me feel a little normal, which is something with all this that I haven't felt in a long while. If anyone knows anything other than birth control or hysterectomy that can help us, please share. Thank you again.

HI,[br>I had unprotected sex with my partner in the 2nd week of jan. Within 12 hours i took an emergency contraceptive pill. within 1 week after this i started getting slight vaginal bleeding from around 14 or 15 of jan. On 26 jan we again had unprotected sex and i didnot take any emergency contraceptive pill thinking that the bleeding that was happening was my periods and it is safe during my periods. This slight bleeding along with fatigability with no abdominal cramps continued for around 2 weeks till 29th of jan. On 29 jan i started getting heavier bleeding with abdominal cramps similar to my usual periods. Usually my periods lasts for 6 days. But brown discharge with small clots is still happening. Today is feb 12 and i have been having bleeding for almost a month continuously now. Is this because of the hormonal imbalance caused by the pill? But still is it normal to bleed for so long?

I'm going thru a very similar situation bleeding heavily for over a month. I'm 32 years old. I went to by OBGYN best lady ever. She did a few tests and we decided to do a DNC today. WOW! Beat decision eve! My bleeding stopped like 90% and I feel great. I was discharged same day from hospital. I recommend a DNC to anyone going thru this. Also she's starting me on Lupron to be on the safe side. The cause of my bleeding is a 5cm fibroid in my uterus. Which will be removed this week.

Good Luck Ladies!!!!
