constant Vaginal bleeding

I am 28, and have experienced this abnormal vaginal bleeding for off and on for 3 years. At one point it was going 10 months straight. Sometimes having bigger clots, and most no clotting. Been to the doctors, they couldnt even do a regular pap because of too much blood. They put me on a birth control to try and get it to stop, didn't work. I have sense stopped taking them, I hate to take pills if its not working. I have history in my family of PMSD. I have had no kids and i'm not sexually active. I am at the point I just wish it would stop and I'm coming to terms this probably means I can't have kids. So frustrated no one is trying to figure out what is wrong with me. To make it worse my work is changing all of our medical insurance starting Jan 1 2012 so i'm having to deal with picking out a new insurance plan. I just need some advice and to know i'm not just the only out here in this world who has this problem

I had a similar problem for about 5 years. I have been to many doctors and none were willing to help more than prescribing me a different birthcontrol pill. I tried the depo shot and just about every pill on the market. I finally was referred to a specialist who could not figure out what is wrong with me. They thought I may have endometriosis, but surgery ruled it out. After the surgery, my doctor said that he thought that getting mirena may help, but ultimately it was my choice. I could either deal with the bleeding, try mirena, or get a hystorectomy. I chose the mirena and have had it for about two years now. I am 25 and don't know that I will ever be able to have children, but I do know that the mirena has helped improve the quality of my life daily. The first few months were the same as any other, but slowly the bleeding started getting better. I now don't have a period normally. If I do, it's light and only about a week. My periods before would last for months and I would bleed through the heaviest pads in about an hour or two. Hope this helps.
