I have a 13 year-old son with ADHD. My problem is that he had always in trouble in school. The school where he's at is a private for mixed students. One day, the principal of the school where my son is at called to me that I need to report in their school for my son's concerns. The principal and one of the teachers of my son told me that he has a behavioral trouble in the class. They said that my son was yelling and gone wild inside the classroom when one of his classmates teased him for being abnormal and a psycho. My son get angry with him and he yelled him and gone wild inside the room. His principal and teacher said that he needs to rest from school or they wanted my son to stop schooling because of his behavior. I told them that he was diagnosed with ADHD and they suggested me to look for "therapeutic boarding school s" for my son. The said boarding school can helps my son with his condition. I had researched about ADHD schools and asked his specialist if he will be better to send him in any ADHD schools and said it Yes so that they will give special care for my son. Anyone who experienced similar to my situation with my son with ADHD? Any advice or suggestion please? Thank in advance.

I am wondering what type of behavior do you see at home?, is your son in counseling? What meds does he take? Is his Dr. a good Child Psychiatrist ?

Personally, I think therapeutic boarding schools can be a good thing, but it depends on the school and the child. I have also heard of not so good experiences where the child does not thrive and do well.

What about a "typical" school and going for an IEP ?

A bit more info. would be helpful - thanks!

Thanks for the reply. My son is screaming out loud when he gets angry, then we need to comfort him just to make him calm. He took Ritalin and Adderall for his medication and sleeping pills. Yes, his doctor is a good child psychiatrist.

Thanks Kathleen

I have a son with severe ADHD. He is on honor roll at school, is now a peer to peer counselor, a religious school aide, plays sports, is in Boy Scouts and about to join Fire Explorers.

I don't think kids with ADHD need "boarding schools" unless something else is going on.

Kids can have co-exisiting disorders with ADHD.

My son takes Adderall and Clonidine.

The school cannot make him stop coming because he has a disability. What about an IEP or 504 plan?

Is he in counseling or socisl skills training?

Are you getting any support as a parent with a child who has special needs?
