does anyone know if you can take ADD meds if you have epilepsy? I have struggled with symptoms most of my life and at times it brings me to tears when I can't find the car keys or my purse, burnt water dry, late for work again....etc.

Do you have an ADHD diagnosis? Do you take medication for your seizures?

What has your doctor said? some medications can lower the seizure threshold.

Patricia Quinn, MD responded:
I would discuss this issue with your neurologist. Although stimulants were thought to lower the seizure threshold many years ago, that has proven not to be the case and many individuals with well-controoled seizures can take medications for ADHD successfully. I would suggest that you pursue a diagnosis and discuss this at that time.
