ive thought my daughter (who is now 5) has had adhd for the past 2 years and i think its getting worse. ive talked to the doctors and he pretty much told me it was a parenting issue and that all kids are hyper and dont really pay attention and listen. but thats just not the case. i have a step daughter (who will turn 5 in jan.) and both girls are TOTAL opposite where as my stepdaughter can sit still for dinner or a tv show or a game. or if we tell her to stop doing something she does or she doesnt make random yelling sounds or random jumping around where as my daughter does. and im just told put her in time outs, send her to her room or shes just a kid shell grow out of it. but i do punish her and to me it feels like im constintly punishing her and that makes me feel like she feels she cant do anything right and im just so stressed out and tired of feeling like other people feel like shes a bad kid. and shes not and i feel like this whole thing has kind of torn our relationship because shes always jumping around or not paying attention or sudden out bursts of yelling and then i have to yell or punish her and its just hard. please help.

I totally understand when you have a child that is different - everyone has ideas on how to "fix" them and many times they judge us as parents.

My friends used to tell me "just give her to me for a week, and I'll fix her" ! ......... making me feel even like a worse parent.

I would suggest you talking to her pediatrician about your concerns. If you don't have a close relationship with the pedi, then find a behavioral health clinic and / or a Child Psychologist to evaluate her behavior and give you ideas and help.

She is only 5, and of course she isn't a bad kid - she just needs help, and you need help in learning what makes her tick and how to best support her.

I know how exhausting it is, and honestly, its hard work finding a specialist to work with you guys - but its WORTH it !!! Don't give up, your daughter needs you to be her voice!

I would be happy to search for clinics or ideas for you guys - just write back with your city / state of residence and I will send you some links to explore.

In the meantime, here are a few sites you can explore.

Take care, (((hugs)))
