Hi, I'm the mother of an ADD 14 year old in Ohio. My daughter is very shy and is struggling with making friends in a community where there is no support groups and friends are scarce. Is there an online community or a place where kids can go to meet other kids who are dealing with the same problems? help... my daughter feels so alone.

Hi, The description that you gave of your daughter sounds just how someone would've described me at 14. I'm 27, now, and I've only found out that ADHD..(They've done away with ADD in the new DSM. So, even if she has no symptoms of hyperactivity, the Dr.s will still call it ADHD}.. is what has been holding me back, in virtually every area of my life, for my entire life. First off, you should know that your daughter is beyond blessed to have you there trying to help her.!!! I was not so lucky. The decisions that you make, on her behalf, until she's of age, will impact her, throughout her entire adult life. I'm not a Dr., but I would suggest, even if you have to drive hours to get there, finding a specialist who will treat her with the proper meds and CBT(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).... If you haven't already done so, of course. You can take a look at CHADD.org and find some awesome resources. There are A LOT of online forums, but I've found that most are not all that they claim to be. I understand that many parents are opposed to giving their children medications. I don't know your views on this, and everyone reacts differently to them, but... Adderall has helped me, significantly. I have always isolated myself, while at the same time wishing that I were out with all of my friends living life.... I know, maybe close to exactly, how your daughter feels. I've just now, literally, joined this forum, today, because I still need to talk to people who understand what I'm dealing with. I'm not sure about their rules on sharing personal info, but I will check and, if possible, I will share my personal email with you.... I would definitely subscribe to ADDitudemag.Com's magazine, too. She's not as alone as she feels!

Our daughters are alike in every way ! ...same age .....along with the same struggles !maybe we as mothers could find a way for them to communicate .....they have so much in common!
