Hi ladies,
I just wanted to say a quick hello and thanks to KL24 for starting this group again. It was not easy finding it but I'm glad I did.
My husband and I have been going back and forth for a few years now and after gathering a lot of information, we have decided (I think) to fervently pursue adoption.
We have a birthmother letter ready, have met with an agency, and have met with an adoption attorney. The process is pretty much just waiting on us. We do want to enlist as much help as possible in finding a match. So we're at the point of how many family members to tell and what all to tell them. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Hi T,

Honestly, if you are ready and are looking for a match in anyway possible and are okay with an open adoption, then I would say go for it and let everyone know that you are adopting/ready to adopt. You never know how a match can be made. Also make sure to let people know that they are free to tell the news to anyone that might be able to help you find a match. If you are just wanting to work with BMs that have been vetted by an agency then I would just let those closest to you that will provide support know what is going on right now. It would limit the number of questions prior to finding a final match by those that you may not want to share it with on a regular basis.

I can tell you what we did and maybe it will be of some help! I told EVERYONE we were hoping to adopt. We even made little business cards with our pic/name/ and 800 number and put them in everything. I sent a letter to our family and friends asking them to keep us in mind if they heard of an adoption situation. We also signed up with a couple of referral agencies that only required minimal fees to show our profile to expectant mothers. We ended up matching with a local adoption attorney after she sent out a statewide email to some social workers looking for a family to present to our daughter's first mom. Since we brought her home we have had about 6 different situations come our way from the letters/cards that we passed out, we were able to share the info with other families looking to adopt. So you never know how your family will come together!
