started expericing hives last feb 2011. i went into a drug/alcohol treatment center.i went into detox for 7days i was fine.then moved over to the rehab.my scalp became really itchy. i always had dry scalp.but it became really bad and then my neck would have hives on it. i didnt have my 1st real breakout until i came home.i thought maybe it was aniexty or my body reacting to culture shock.i experienced hives that appeared everywhere.in my scalp.palms of hands.feet.face.back.legs.arms. it was so bad that in the month of march i went to the ER 2x's because i didnt know what was happening.they had no clue so they gave me benedroyl and predinsone.the benedroyl didnt do anything but make them worse.the prednisone worked made them go away n relieved me from itching.but it was only temporary.i went to my family doctor who didnt know what i had.he sent me to an allergist who had no clue what to do w me either. she started me on every allergy medicine form claratin.zyertec,zyflo etc. nothing was making them go away.she ran allergy tests.i thought maybe it was a detergent or something i was eating.finally she said i had an auto immune disease and she was going to give me cell cept along w predinsone (which my mom is taking for her auto immune disease lupus) after a month of taking it.i was free of the hives and relieved to be off the steriods!! then 4mths into treatment she said she was worried of prolonged usage of the drug.since its hard on ur liver. she took me off and the hives came right back.so here i am over 1 year into this process and still no solution.my mom got me an appt w her rheumatology doctor today(she sees her for her lupus).she had only seen one person w what i have (apprently this is a rare case of auto immune) she wants me to have testing done and she will put me on plaquenil in 2wks(which my mom is also taking) fingers crossed that hopefully this will help and i can be free from worrying and stress that this has caused.maybe i will be cured from this disease one day.i have gained over 50lbs w the steriods,along w the hutch back they gave me as well. i am uuncomfortable 24/7. but i know now after reading all ur blogs that i am not alone in this struggle.thank u for posting!!
