Seasonal Allergies
WIMomX3 posted:
Is anyone aware if seasonal allergies can also cause vaginal itching in a young girls. One of my daughter experiences bad seasonal allergies and she complains of severe vaginal itching during this same time. Claritin seems to help both and she takes it in the morning but by evening all symptoms are back.

Allergy cells (mast cells) are found in highest concentrations in the mucosa (eyes, lining of nose/throat) and skin. When my allergies were at their worst 5-6 years ago before I took daily antihistamines I experienced itching all over my skin without a rash or hives. So your daughter's symptom doesn't surprise me.

The Claritin probably wears off by the evening; you might try either having her take another Claritin at night, or switch to Zyrtec (which is stronger and will last 24 hours). Of course, check with her pediatrician as to whether this is ok, but the OTC version of Claritin is a pretty weak antihistamine.

Hope these thoughts help. Take care and good luck. Judy

Hi WiMomX3,

According to this article, genital itching can be caused by allergies , but the only way to know for sure is to have your daughter examined by her pediatrician or a pediatric allergy specialist.

Here also is some information on 9 Ways to Relieve Seasonal Allergy Symptoms.

I hope you get some answers and relief for her soon.

Take care,

My daughter suffers every April with no support from anyone but me. If I learn any more I will share it here. .
