O/T GRRRR Renting a car

BabyLovesPrada posted:
So I want to rent a car Thur- Sun, we are driving up to the Spalding Inn, which is in the white mountains of NH, (3 hours away) Dh and I both drive older cars that we owe nothing on and just intend to "run them into the ground" well, this area is pretty isolated and tons of back roads and twisty turns, so we decided yesterday we would rent a car, rather than risk breaking down and have HUGE repair bill so far from home. so I am looking online on Travelocity and print off some rates, I prefer Enterprise but Budget had the best rates, So I want to check expedia and their rates were more $$$ so I go back to Travelocity and plug in my info? and now the daily rate increased 30+ a day? And I checked to make sure that I entered the same EXACT information.

GRRR

I am going to try again later, but its annoying! LOL Anyone got any tips? suggestions? DH is 6'5 and 280lbs, so we need atleast the "standard" option, its too long of a drive for him to be crampin up

Thanks!

hate when that happends. i wish i was able to give you some hints but we have ended up in that situation way to many times and just ended up having to bite the bullet. you could always call the car companies i guess.

As sad as it sounds, this is my area of expertise as I work at Enterprise!!! Have you tried enterprise.com? If you book Thurs-Mon, you'd probably get the weekend special rate which is cheaper than Thurs-Sun b/c you have to have it til Monday for the weekend rates to apply. Call the branch you'd like to rent at and find out their rates and compare them to what's online. Or, if you find a lower rate than ERAC, most branches will match that price if you have proof.

Something else you may want to factor is insurance. Do you have full coverage? If not, you may want to factor the company's coverage into your price.

Thanks Wanda, I have full coverage and do not opt for the rental insurance, my agent told me there was no need, thanks for the Thur- Monday tip! I will try it out!!!!

I just got on the enterprise website and in Massachusetts, for 4 days, I priced a standard at $146.43. Not sure what your budget is though.

Of course insurance tells you not to get it. If something happens you have to pay your deductible to them which could lead to possible higher premiums. You may want to also check into loss of use coverage.
