Don't be a hero or a martyr. When you become the parent of your parent, or whatever situation in which you find yourself, know at the outset that you cannot do this alone. If you have no sibs, children, or friends to help, reach out to anyone who is willing to help. People seem to disappear like rabbits when a relative is diagnosed. Take care of yourself first. This disease is a monster, and it takes no prisoners.
