Implantation Bleeding

I'm not sure if I started my period exactly 1 week early or if it is implantation bleeding. My last period began on March 30th and lasted only 3 days (usually it lasts 5), and by my ovulation chart I ovulated on April 13th, and my period shouldn't be due till April 28th. My cycle length is 27 days like clockwork. My bleeding is not light spotting, but not as heavy as a normal period either and it's dark brown/black, not the usual red. Also, I have not had any normal period symptoms: sore breasts, bloating, mood swings, etc.

My husband and I do not haven't used birth control for just over a year, we are not "trying" to conceive but I guess it's fair to say were not NOT trying.

Since it's not spotting, as implantation bleeding is typically described as, could it still be implantation bleeding, or just an early period? And when can I test (again ovulation should have been on the 13th)?

It could be either.

Wait until you next expected period date and if you do not have a normal period wait 3-5 days then try a home test with 1st morning urine.
