Is it true that some antibiotics can worsen anxiety? I've read this online and I don't know whether it's true or not. It's hard to belive anything you read online about medicines or side effects.

Patricia Farrell, PhD responded:
It is possible that certain medications used to treat medical problems can bring on anxiety. There is some research evidence that points to children who have had treatment for strep throat with antibiotics having problems such as increased OCD and tic disorders. You can always check things in the PDR, which you will find in your local library's reference section.
