Accidentally took Xanax

I have a prescription for Ativan which I take .25 mg to drift to sleep maybe only 3 or 4 times a year.

I recently got a prescription for Xanax .5mg to take if I need on an international flight. I have never taken before.

The other night I wanted to take a small dose of ativan to help sleep and broke the .5mg and took a quarter of .125mg

Unfortunately I accidentally took the Xanax because the generic names are so close.

It was my first time taking Xanax.

So I am concerned and wondering since this was my first time taking xanaxI took it by mistake without reason ie I was not having a panic attack, can this one small dose cause any problems for me? Ie permanent side effect like ED. Or addiction?

The doctor said be very careful of Xanax so I am concerned I took it without reason and caused myself some permant issues. Also is .125mg Xanax considered low or high?

Thank you.

What I know about Xanax is that it is extremely addicting and that is why she said to be very careful while taking this drug. I'm not sure if it will cause any permanent side effects but I do know that if your not having a panic attack it can make you feel high. .125 Is not a high dose at all so I would not worry to much about it but then again certain meds affect people differently. I would be careful while taking Xanax I've known a lot of people to get addicted to it.

I'm not an MD, but I'm sure that if you called your PCP you would be told (also by your pharmacist) that you took a very low dose of Xanax, it is not addicting at that one-time dose and it will not cause ED. If you want to check further, ask either of the two professionals I just referenced above.
