I'm sorry that your treating physician is not taking you seriously when you indicate that you have these types of problems. Obviously, being overweight, having COPD and diabetes are all things that can produce anxiety and you are probably taking medications which may also have anxiety as a side effect.
It is rather surprising to me that your physician has not indicated several things; that diabetes and anxiety and depression all come together and that COPD is certainly anxiety provoking. I am not an M.D., but I do believe that your physician has made a wise choice in not giving you any medication because less medication is better for you. What I am wondering about is the reason that you haven't been given some type of direction regarding how you might be able to help yourself with all of this. Also, I think, any medication side effects should have been discussed with you.
I would think that working with a dietitian or nutritionist who specializes in working with people with diabetes would be a good idea. Weight loss will help you not only with your diabetes, but may even help with other aspects of your life. There should also be some consideration of cognitive therapy for you.
In the meantime, we do have one thing in our Tips column which I would suggest you begin to view and consider using. That is our relaxation breathing video tutorial. I say this because what you are describing is anxiety that may be due to social situations and feeling rather closed in. This, I would think, is something that can occur quite naturally when someone has COPD. Having a breathing problem is difficult enough without having the feeling that the room is overcrowded. Please give the breathing exercise a try and see how it can work for you.
Also, consider talking to your physician about some of the other ideas I have put into this post. I hope you feel much better very soon.
