strange mental sensations

I hope someone else out there can help me out with this. for the past month or two i have been experiencing what I can only explain as strange mental sensations, almost like some form of deja vu. however it is not typical deja vu. it's like i have had dreams about things and then something during my day will trigger me to have thoughts about it, but almost as if my brain is telling me that is reality where some other part of my brain knows it isn't. I can almost control when it happens by thinking about some of the "dreams". however it is a very uncomfortable feeling that leaves me feeling helpless and scared that I am losing my mind. it happens more frequently at work where i've had work dreams before and all of a sudden i get the sensation. i don't know how else to describe it but i just want to know if this should be something I should seek professional help on. i've contemplated contacting a neurologist or a psychiatrist to make sense of it. i went to a walk in and the doctor told me it is anxiety and I should exercise more, however i stay pretty active and yet it keeps happening!

I'm not sure what seems to be happening but I can certainly understand that it is distressing for you. I don't think a walk-in clinic would be able to provide an adequate evaluation for you and I do think you might want to check with your PCP and, possibly, a neurologist.

You didn't indicate whether or not you have any medical conditions or whether or not you are taking any medications both prescription and OTC. Sometimes, side effects of any medication or over-the-counter products may produce things that are somewhat unusual. So, all of these things have to be considered as well as how much sleep you get each night, the type of diet you are eating and your overall health.

I don't think a psychiatrist would be the 1st person to consult because I do think that this needs to be 1st explored in terms of overall health and medical issues. The fact that the walk-in clinic indicated it was an anxiety problem does not provide, for me, an adequate diagnosis. Anxiety is often diagnosed for a variety of problems that are not seen because there hasn't been adequate exploration. That is not to say that you have a serious medical condition, but only that things need to be checked out before stress or anxiety can be seen as what you are currently experiencing.

I hope that this doe resolve quickly and that you are able to feel much better very soon.
