Really needing some info re: former therapist

I was seeing a therapist from Feb of this year until July 5. I live in Oklahoma. I need to know who to report her to as she told many, many lies and she needs to be reprimanded, at least, for all the lies she told. For one thing, I have panic disorder with agoraphobic features. She told me she could come to my house for appointments if it got bad. It did, but she said she could not come to my house. She also told me she started my SSI app in Feb and she did not, so I started my own in May. I have a son who is MR and she told me she could take him to a very important dr appt for his SSI app and she did not. Not only did she not take him as she promised, she was very rude. That was our last appt. His appt was July 5, our last appt. That was the proverbial straw. However, I did call to ask her a favor since I had not found another therapist. Unemployment called me and asked about my condition. They said to get her to fax them a letter stating my condition. I called her about this a few weeks ago (after our last appt) and she completely ignored my request. She did not call me back to get the fax number, but yet she did call yesterday. I have no clue what her message said because it was a full week after I called asking for the letter to be faxed. I figure she has some nerve calling me after all that. Anyway, I have talked to several people about this and they all say she needs to be reported, which I knew, but I cannot figure where to report her. I cannot find out who her boss is. I think she works as a self-employed therapist, but after all the lies and misinformation she gave me she needs to be reported. Please if anyone can help me with who to report her to, like some website for reporting bad therapists in Oklahoma, I would really appreciate it!!!!

I can understand your feelings regarding your current situation with this therapist but there are several things that need to be uncovered before you can make a decision regarding what to do about this.

The 1st thing, of course, is to find out whether or not she is licensed and then to find out what kind of license she has. Not every state has the same licensing acquirements and some states permit individuals without a doctorate in psychology to obtain practice privileges or even to practice without a license.

The State of Oklahoma does have a website where you can search for a licensee or file a complaint. I have provided the link in this response to you should you wish to avail yourself of this information.

Before you take action, I would suggest that you carefully prepare a detailed description of your concerns, attempt to work this out with the therapist and, if this is unproductive, you may want to contact the licensing board. Anyone practicing without a license where one is required by the state can have sanctions or legal consequences lodged at them.

Allow me to clarify another point. Therapists, as I understand it from my own clinical practice and experience, do not initiate any SSI claims for anyone. It is the responsibility of the individual to initiate a claim and then Disability will notify any of the healthcare providers you have indicated provided services to you or to your son. This should have been made clear to you, but it seems it may not have been.

I was a medical consultant for many years for Social Security Disability determinations and I know what they do. I also have a page on my website which has quite a bit of information on Disability and what you need to do to apply.

I hope you can resolve this situation to your satisfaction.

Thanks for the info. I am not sure of her licensing and tried to contact to find out, but never got a return call from her.

That was a flat-out lie she told me then because she said she got my SSI app started:(

I am going to check out the site. Thanks again!!

Just to add an addendum. I just checked the site and it says no match found so I guess she is not even licensed.....?? Not sure where to go from here if she really has no license. Isn't that illegal to practice and not have a license?

You can send an email to the licensing board and indicate that you are seeing this person and, it appears, she is not licensed and ask for their advice on this.#next_pages_container { width: 5px; hight: 5px; position: absolute; top: -100px; left: -100px; z-index: 2147483647 !important; }
