Panic/Anxiety attack AFTER Event

My panic/anxiety attacks seem to occur after a stressful event rather than during it. It almost seems like my body won't let the attack happen until I'm relaxed. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can be done to prevent the attack alltogether when it is happening during times of calmness?
