Hi, I hope that there is someone out there to give me some advice. I went into an ER(1) on 3/27 with shortness of breath, was kept until 3/29,diagnosed with COPD and released. The next day, I had an appointment at a urologist office, the urologist did not like the way I was looking,so she had two of the young ladies of the office wheel me to the ER(2) across the street. My oxygen level was extremely low.Unaware of what was happening with me, I was admitted, now this was the 29th of March, when I woke up, it was 4/4/10.I had been placed on a ventilator,so then I knew that this was something serious. As time went on,the the pulmonologist said that I had double pneumonia plus the COPD.

Hello saralees,

I apologize for not answering sooner. WebMD took 2 weeks to notify me of your post. I hope you are still w/ us.

Seems your DR don't know much. Is she A Pulmonary DR?

Sara, I have found the Best way to 'cope' w/ any Disorder, is to educate Yourself. And keep up w/ the latest Info about that Disorder. With Knowledge you can be your own Best Advocate & know what to expect or ask/tell your DR. I have found medicalnewstoday.com to be a Great newsletter. As you can see from my previous posts, I have done my 'homework'. Now it's Time for You!

Also, consider locating a Support Group in your Area. You can Learn even More from PPL w/ personal experiences who have been there done that. Like me, only in person. And/Or locate other on-line support groups for more opinions Info. dailystrength.com is one I am a member of too. I asked my questions & now I mainly just browse what others have to say.

I have a friend who's sister developed COPD at a young age. Cause? Working at JCPenney dept store in the clothing dept. The chemicals used in storerooms covered the boxes/wrappings/clothes, she handled. We should always, always wash clothes B4 wearing! There are other factors, too. Genetics can be a culprit, also. Which is why previous posters suggested the alpha test.

Let me know if you read this. I will chek this board more often I promise.

Love Candi
