Quad Screen Positive

Hi Ladies,

I have figured out how to use this darn thing slowly. We had our 15 week appot. last week and we heard teh heartbeat, everything seemed to be going better since our rocky start. Well, we got our Quad screen results back and found out we tested positive for Trisomy 18. I am so devastated, scared and sad. I just am at a loss for thoughts and words right now. We currently have a 91% chance that the test is wrong and 9% chance that our baby has this awful birth defect. I am waiting to get a call to scehdule the Amnio and I am scared to death. I hope we don't have to wait long and that we are in the 91% group.

Anyone else have this happen to them? Thoughts and prayers are needed as we may have a very difficult decision ahead of us.....

Ang

I haven't had mine yet, but I just wanted to let you know that I'll be praying for you- that your baby will be just fine and that God will give you the strength to get through this. Please keep us posted on how things turn out. And 91% sounds like pretty good odds that things will be ok. I'm sure that is little comfort... Hugs to you! And if there are any other specific ways I can pray for you, please let me know.

Dannipo1,

I am so sorry. I hope that the amnio itself goes smoothly for you and that you are able to hear news of a healthy LO soon. If it makes you feel any better I have not once heard of a amnio coming back with a bad result either in my personal life or on the many boards I frequent here. And many women have gotten an initial positive screen. Hang in there.

My update

Well I had the amino on Monday.... and let me just say it was no fun. I had to get stuck twice, the first time the doctor said the pocket of fluid moved. So he had to start over!! That freaked me out, and I wanted to stop right then and there feeling like it was a sign I should just leave well enough alone. But after I calmed down some, I gave him one more chance. He was able to get another pocket of fluid and get the 20cc that he needed.

We also got to get a a sono to check for other markers, they said everything looked great and they they believe that it was just a false positive. Which was such a relief to hear, the results will be back in 10 days so continue to keep us in your prayers. I was praying thru the entire process just claiming that this baby is just fine.

My 20 week sono is on April 9th I was excited to see the baby before that date. They as told us we are having a BOY!!! After 5 girls, we are in shock, but I just felt that this was a boy. I was right... James is too scared to believe it until the result from the amino come back and then he said it's official. But we saw the goods yesterday.

Thanks again for all of the kind words, it really helped!!
