Sleep Routine Books

Hi Girls -

I know there are a lot of second (and third) time mommies on this board, so I would appreciate your advice!

I've had several recommendations on books to read about establishing routines for baby (mostly sleep routines). I was most recently told to read The Baby Whisperer and On Being Baby Wise. And some of the reviews scared me... it seems that people either love or despise these books. I guess what I'm asking is should I try one of these books, or should I just go with my instincts and forget about books for now. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey Emily. I am a super reader...lol. I read about every little thing. Drives my fam insane..lol. Anywho, honestly...my kids found thier own routine. I think sleep routines are great, but mainly after the first year OR you are having tons of issues.

I would wait and see. You may have one of those newborns that sleeps all night after the first couple of weeks. We can all pray for that...lol!!!

Hi Nicki!

Thanks for your advice. I'm a big reader too, but I think for this particular subject the reading is overwhelming me. I think I will take your advice, and the advice of other moms I have asked, and just wait and see. You're right... if I"m having serious issues then I will address the situation when it arises. Thanks for the reassurance!

Your mommy instincts will do you just fine:-) I never ead a book because I had to go with what I felt comfortable doing and my 2 year old is a great sleeper. My advice is go with what makes you comfortable.

Emily,

I would TOTALLY go with my instincts! I am one of "those" people who have to read about EVERYTHING. I have to plan EVERYTHING...One thing that TTC taught me (and you, I'm sure!) is that there are some things that books can't necessarily teach you...there are some things that you can't necessarily plan.

Like Nicki, I would just wait it out. If you are having serious issues later on, then I would ask your pediatrician what (s)he recommends. Just because it's in a book doesn't necessarily mean it will work...a HARD, but TRUE lesson...

I'm sure you'll do fine!
