Diaper Genie Opinions!

Okay, give me your opinions girls!!

I registered for a diaper genie b/c one of my best friends said it's the best of invention. Since then, I have had several people tell me it's a waste of money and space. I live in a three story townhome, and we use all three levels. I was planning on keeping the diaper genie in the nursery, and then using those scented diaper bags from BRU or a similar type small trash bag for when we change diapers elsewhere. Is the diaper genie a good investment, is it useful?

Let's here it!

Hey Emily,

Well, I have a Diaper Champ. I know back 4 years ago when I got it, the reason we chose that over the Genie was that you had to use the Diaper Genie bags. With the Champ you could use any plastic bag you wanted. I was also hoping the smell would be better than it was, but it does not contain it completely, I think that is almost impossible. We were still taking out the bags at least 2 times a week, but the smell gets in there. I will still use the Champ, just for convience purpose in the nursery, but like you I also threw then out in Target bags or whatever if I am not in the nursery I guess it is nice when you are changing in the middle of the night and you just don't want that stink in the air. They do trap most of the odor, but overtime you have to air it out, sanitize and clean out the bags more frequently. I will still use mine this time around.....

Not sure if it helps, but I would make sure you don't have to buy the Genie bags, that can add up quick! Maybe that feature has changed on those.....

Good luck and hope you had a successful shower!

Hey, Emily! I chose the Diaper Champ, like Angie, because you could use regular trash bags in it. I'd go to the $ store and get the vanilla scented ones and then drop a charcoal insert (available at BRU) into the bottom and that pretty much contained the smell for us...and we changed the bags pretty frequently...

I'm kinda OCD, so I used the changing table ALL THE TIME... DD would flood EVERYTHING just about every time we changed her diaper, so I didn't want to take chance on getting the floor, couch, or my bed drenched every time I changed her...

What floor is the nursery going to be on?

JMO Emily, but soooo not worth it!!! Honestly, just make sure that you have plenty of grocery bags, tie the dirty diapers up and throw them out in the trash. Works just as good!!!
