    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

    Yours in health,

    Unusual Salt Craving

My son can't seem to keep his hands off of lunch meats (esp ham), pretzels, chips, Velveeta cheese, and puts a ton of salt on his food. If we don't allow it, he simply sneaks it. He will eat a whole pack of ham in one sitting. The clinic he goes to seem to think it's all related to a need for salt in his body. Has anyone ever heard of this???

I'm also putting this on the ADHD site and Special Needs forum.

    He has ADHD and Asperger.

I remember seeing something like this on some show (maybe Mystery Diagnosis, one of those shows) where the little boy just put salt on everything and then would drink non stop. It was something with his kidneys and crystals forming, I can't remember all of it and I may be giving you alot of wrong information but it sounds like something his doctor should look into.

Has he ever had any kind of adrenal function or metabolic tests?

"Has he ever had any kind of adrenal function or metabolic tests?" No. I didn't think of that. Don't know why the doctors haven't.
