Docs want to burn nerves in back

RedChev posted:
My husband hurt his back some years ago and recently saw a specialist. He had a series of 3 sets of shots for herniated disks (in the lower lumbar) that are leaking on the nerves. The shots worked for a few weeks each time but the pain and inability to work comes back. The shots are not working as expected and living on pain killers is a terrible alternative. The specialist suggested burning the nerves as the next option.

What are the pros and cons of such a radical option?

Thanks for the help.
