Went to the doctor!

Hey referred me to a spine surgeon who checked me out. He said I have stenocis in my L5 to S1 regions and that I should have a fusion to decompress that area. Whole lot of medical jargon to me! What does all of that mean?!

Hi, Mellycooper.

I replied to another one of your posts about surgery. It is only 50-60% effective for pain relief and 80% successful for improving functionality. You have choices of treatments that do not include surgery as that should be your last resort.

Physical therapy, especially in a pool, may be helpful. Keep doing your research into available treatments and try each one very cautiously. You may benefit from the opinion of at least one different spine specialist as well.

I pray you find the right treatment for relief soon.

Dave, I did just that. I went to another spine consultant and they were saying a fusion might be in order. However, I have read bad things about fusions on here. What do you think about that?
