I have been suffering with this terrible pain in my back, right between my shoulder blades. I had Osteo- myelitis that actually destroyed t-9 and 10. They just melted and the rest of the spine just collapsed on the nerves. I actually am going to get nerve blocks on the 4th of June, 2012. I pray they work because I can't stand having to take Morphine and other pain killers just to survive.I was an athlete my entire life and now I feel as if there will be nothing that I will be able to do to keep in shape. Gets very depressing too!!!!!

Hello, and welcome.

I'm sorry to read of your pain but fully understand. Take the time to get to know us in this WebMD Back Pain Community by reading the posts and the Tip at the top of the page. We are a group of lay people who have far more experience with back pain and spinal problems that we would ever want. You will find that we know what your going through and want to support and help each other.

I pray the nerve blocks help and hope to see more posts from you.

hi and welcome to the support group -

Dave, as always, has given you great advise and the TIPS he references has great information so please do read thru that.

I do want to add (click my name or pic to read my story) that pain meds do not touch nerve pains. I have nerve damage in both legs and pain meds or ibuprofen etc., does not help. what has helped me is taking Neurontin (Gabapentin is generic form). There is also Lyrica that is great for it too. I would suggest speaking with your physician about these meds.

Also, you didn't mention what type of physician you are seeing. Are these treatments being done by a spine specialist or a pain management physician?

Reason I am asking is a Spine Specialist (Orthopedic Spine or Neurosurgeon Spine) are the only ones to fully diagnose spine issues. Once you have a diagnosis, it would be beneficial to see a PHYSIATRIST Pain Management Clinic (see link)

http://www.spineuniverse.com/treatments/what-physiatrist

they go deeper into pain management treatments going to the underlying problem of the pains. I have been seeing one for about 4 years now and they are great at treating my conditions.

yes this can get depressing and others do not know how much we suffer each day. Even though I am on pain meds etc., I still have pain 24/7 but at least the pain meds do help and I can get out of bed each day ( unless I overdo myself, cleaning etc.,) and we all know pain here!

I hope and pray the treatments work. Please let us know how you are doing after you have the treatments. take care - Joy
