    Fusion with Hardware
    grannyfibro posted:
In 2006, I had a spinal fusion with hardware. They opened me up front and back and put in the hardware to hold my back together (basically). Everything has healed nicely, but I have noticed that when it's cold it almost feels as though the metal is contracting, causing additional pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

hi GrannyFibro welcome to the support group -

in 2/08 I had Anterior Lumbar Fusion L5-S1 - I healed and fused but I still have severe chronic low back pain and nerve damage in both legs -

In the heat of the summer, mostly the humidity, and the cold of the winter hits my plate and causes me more pains. I've told my pain doc this and also 2 spine specialists (have issues with mid and upper back) and they have all said "YEP" the weather will affect it.

sorry you are feeling this - in the winter I usually will buy "Heat Therapy Patches" sold at Walgreens or CVS - if you get the big back ones they are 3 to a pack @ $7.00 or the neck ones come 4 to a pack - same price - I usually get the neck ones as they are smaller patches and I can put it right in the middle of my plate!! LOL I also still wear my back brace (wrap around) and this helps holds the patch in place. The heat feels great and it helps with some of the pains.

    Hope this helps -
    Take care~~
