    hi Proudmama1984

here is a site for exercises you can try - I just googled: sciatic nerve exercises

I know you are on a limited income, but I take Neurontin (Gabapentin is generic) for mine as I have nerve damage in both legs. I get my scripts from an independent pharmacy as they can give a price break when you don't have RX coverage. This med really does help.

Hope this helps - keep us posted~~

Thank you very much one for taking the time too answer i am desperate for pain relief and two for the info though. I've tried everything i have come across and absolutely nothing would i go about getting a prescription for that?

    Hi Proudmama1984 -

You should speak with your spine specialist who diagnosed your spine problems or your Pain Management Specialist. If you don't have either of these then maybe speak with your Primary Care doc.

Both these meds are started out on a low dose (usually 300mg daily) for a week or two (does have side effects but hose do disappear) and slowly increased over several weeks until you reach a therapeutic dose.

Also, as you have limited funds etc., if there is a big University Hospital near they do have programs set up for those that either do not have insurance and/or limited funds. Some programs are set up where they may do evaluations/treatments etc., for free. So do check into that.

Before my surgery I used to massage my hips and legs to try and get the pains to subside. Using heating pad and ice packs may also help.

When sleeping at nite use extra pillows - between your knees when sleeping on your side and under you knees when sleeping on your back (prop pillows behind head like a recliner position). Sleeping in a recliner helps too.

I hope and pray this works for you.- please keep us posted

Sorry about your pain proudmama. I have been having sciatic pain since Sept. and it hurts like hell. I am scheduled for an epidural on the 28th. If the Dr. knew how painful this is he would have scheduled me sooner. I hope this will get rid of my pain.

I really don't see how you take care of 5 children being in pain as you are.

Ice will help numb it up and may take the swelling away. Hope you get some relief soon.
