Just wondering if any of you have experienced or are familiar with a similar issue to what I am currently having. It all started about 4 weeks ago when I was awoken i the night to a terrible itchy spot right on my spine between the top portion of my shoulder blades. The itch was so bad, I was unable to sleep and resorted to scratching and even slapping the area. The itch would even radiate upward to the rest of my neck and even on my face. Since then, the itch has mostly subsided, but I still have this silver dollar sized spot on my spine that feels numb and like sunburn at the same time. There is absolutely no discoloration or rash.
Two weeks ago the muscle between my spine and my left shoulder blade just beneath the numb spot has decided to spasm. It has been hurting ever since. I went to the doctor. She told me there was no cyst there and just gave me muscle relaxers. She pretty much avoided any discussion about the numb spot as if it were unrelated. I told her I thought the problem to be nerve related but she just smiled at that idea.
I would like to add two additional, possibly unrelated, symptoms that have cropped up in the last year: difficulty swallowing without a lot of liquid to wash food down and I have suddenly noticed lots of eye floaters. I am 33 years old and male.
The muscle spasm in my back has not gone away since I've been taking muscle relaxers and the spot on my back, if anything, has gotten worse. Hopefully someone out there can help me or has some ideas. Thanks for any responses!
I would go back to your primary doc and discuss this in detail - if she does not think anything is wrong and won't listen then I would find another primary doc.
You may need to see either a Neurologist or Neurosurgeon Spine Specialist - have tests done etc to see if anything can be found. but I would discuss this again with your primary doc as some testing should start there and whatever the results are then send you to the appropriate specialists.
