well i joined the military on feb.14 2001 and in basic i tore my muscle and my left leg kept going numb. they forced me to run and train anyway. i kept thinking my shoes was on to tight but couldnt figure out why my whole leg would go numb. i made it through basic this way and went to tech school to become a A-10 Crewchief, while there i kept going to the hospital and complaining about my leg problems. they would give me muscle relaxers which if you tear your muscle DO NOT TAKE IT, just made the pain worse. they also gave me 800mg mortain well basically the pill if you have any problems there. and send me on my way. 2 weeks before graduating training the doctors found out that i tore my muscle, they never looked at my muscle the whole time i was complaining in tell i lifted my pant leg and ask if this was normal. they gave me a mri on my left leg and told me i was normal but they couldnt tell me why i grew an arch in my foot, im flat footed. well of course i was discharged from the military and started care at the VA hospital around 2003 here where i live they rated me 20 percent disabled for a chronic tear in my lower left calf muscle and nerve damage, cause they said when i ripped my muscle it took some nerves with it. Never gave me a MRI on my spine. all they did to find out i had nerve damage was taking a needle and touching my skin to see if i could feel it.
ok long story short,it has been almost 12 years of pain that feels like its getting worse i was told by my primary care doctor that the pain was in my head, the numbness which is now in both leg from thigh to knee( outer not inner) was normal and the pain and numbness i still receive in my left leg is normal and my left leg i have heel spurs too.. fun right.and he told me he tore his muscle and he was fine and kept sending me to physical theorpy. well Mental health at the VA diagnosed me with Bi-polar depression and insomnia . 10 years of suffering they decided in mental health to run a MRI on my spine, i was nervis about going to my doctor cause he kept saying this was in my head so i finally went to the E.R. at the VA and they found out that i have 2 Herniated discs in my lower spine and a 3rd possible one but thats not conformed yet. the reason for poss 3rd one is i lost feeling in my right thumb and every so often i loose complete feeling in my right hand. they are finally talking about giving me steriod injections in my spine to ease the pain but i scared to let the same guys who called me a liar and treated me like a faker to even touch my spine, and the guy in the E.R. said most likly im going to need surgery. Would you hand them a knife to try to fix you. Im so scared they are going to make me worse... i dont know what to do. there is more to the story but this is the shorter version. march 16 ,2013 is my 12 year mark with this pain. any advise or ??? not really sure what to say. oh and every year i seem to feel a new pain or its just increasing and i cant walk without my cane and even with it, not far at all. from the rescue mission to the nearest gas station takes normal people 20min there and 20 min back. it took me 3hrs and 20 min there and back which i did break down to cry for awhile.

Hi WilliamB6 - welcome to the support group -

Now in regards to your back - I know how the VA can take time treating areas if something is wrong like this. I would suggest that if possible you see either a Orthopedic Spine Specialist or Neurosurgeon Spine Specialist outside of the VA - you really need to have an MRI of your spine (lumbar, thoracic and maybe cervical) as you do have problems with your leg(s) and are having problems with an arm(s). They will let you know what the diagnosis is and will also let you know what treatment options are available.

They can refer you a good Pain Specialist that specializes in PHYSIATRIST Pain Management.

Your spine issues have gone on un-treated for quite a while and it's time that you get this taken care of.

Please keep us posted what you find out~~

well it gets better, i just found out i have 4 more bulging disc's in my spine from my neck down. i was especting to have only one cause of the pain i live with. Nope 4.. i dont know what to do, the VA Hostpital is trying to tell me that this just happened to cover their end in mis-dianosing me and ignoring my pain and knumbness. i went to a pain theoropy app. which was basically 90 percent about how this just happened and the guy actually said he was a Expert. I love the fact his daughter texted him during my app. and he looked at me and said " Sorry my daughter is more important then you".... what am i going to do.. this is so depressing. plus to make matters worse im forced to live here at the Rescue Mission, thank God for having this place but i feel like im going crazy with all the curfew's i now have and how 2 guys here which are House Managers like to make my life just that much harder. for instance if i have a problem i supposed to be able to talk with the VA rep on this floor but he avoids me like the plague and i have the other guy who has no right to bother me but he like a power trip or something.... i got to get outta here. my life sucks... guess this is more a rant then a question. well heck what would you do if your life was a joke to everyone?
