I have had severe symptoms of sciatica for a week now. I have tried muscle relaxants, nerve medications, Anti inflammatory meds, heating pads, rest, and even a Tens Unit- NOTHING helps!!! The only relief I get is when I lay down but unfortunately I work at a job that requires me to sit. The pulsating pain in the leg is almost too much. I have stabbing pain in my lower back, right buttock and into my thigh. I feel like I'm losing my mind from the pain!!! Now I'm experiencing pain in the region of my right ovary. I have had endometriosis removed 2 yrs ago and many large cysts throughout the years. I am only 27 yrs old and can hardly walk upwards. Someone please help!!

Hi Fed Up - welcome to the support group -

first - sciatic nerve pains don't just normally pop up - there is always an underlying problem that causes the sciatic nerves to surface and cause pains.

second - you mentioned you have lower back pain - this is a key factor to the sciatic nerve pains. Usually a bulging disc is pressing on the nerve roots that run down the legs causing the pains.

you need to be seen by a spine specialist - either a Orthopedic Spine Specialist or Neurosurgeon Spine Specialist. they will examine you and may order tests (MRI, CT Scan etc) to see what shows up. depending on that will depend on what treatment plans and those can include physical therapy, pain management etc.

I don't know what nerve medication you were taking but I take Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) which this is approved to help nerve pains - also Lyrica has been found to help too. but you must be examined by a spine specialist to determine what is causing the nerve pains in your leg(s).

when sleeping at nite try using extra pillows - between your knees when sleeping on your sides or under you knees when sleeping on your back. this will help keep your spine more straight and should help with the pains. Never, Never sleep on your stomach as this will ad to back and leg pains.

Fed UP, have you tried ice and the Sciatica excersises? Try laying on your back on a bed and pull your knee up to your chest to stretch the muscle. Afterwards put some ice on it for about 20 mins. Hope you van get some relief.
