Looks like I will be having surgery~~~

I saw a new Neuro Spine Doc 2 weeks ago - he looked at MRI and talked to me about my back history etc. He set me up to have CT Scan and X-ray (ext/flex) last Friday so I had that done and saw him afterwards. He was really concerned about the L4-5 disc as it's moving really far both ways and thats the crunching sound - he showed me the CD's and as I was standing there I moved just a little and boy did it crunch - real bad. I asked him if he heard it and the look on his face was priceless!!! LOL he had a look of scrunched face as he knew it was painful for me when that happens.

He was so concerned that he wants to do surgery in June! UGH I told him I wanted to wait til fall time so have it set for Sept 10th. He said he will get me in ASAP if it gets real bad and hurts too much.

I do have another appt with a Spine Specialist on June 4th so will take all reports and see what this one says - this is one I have seen in regards to the Spinal Cord Stimulator implant which I refused to have as he kept saying it would take the pains away in my legs - not the numbness but the pains - told him it was controlled by meds very well and I didn't want to change that. But he is a very well known spine doc so will see what he says about my back now - it has seen past MRI's and knows my history.

If I do have to have surgery will keep appt with the doc I have as I really like him - the one I will be seeing is ok but his bedside manor is not 100%.

So I will keep you all posted as to what happens~~

Hi Joy,

I am sorry to hear this but maybe the surgery will help with some of the pain issues. I am glad they are working with you to do the surgery at a more favorable time.

Please keep us informed

Thanks Di - the surgeon did say he thought this was part of my problem along with the L5 disc issues when this disc blew in 2006 cause if you look at all my MRI written reports it shows that the L4-5 disc was bulging so he didn't understand why they didn't do a double fusion.

anyway that's that - will let ya know what goes on~~

hey Dave thanks for the prayers. i can use a lot right now. they will be going in thru back putting plate 4 screws and 2 rods in so recovery will be longer than if surgery were thru stomach. and i would rather do recovery in fall time this way i can enjoy my pool.

how are you and your wife doing? hope you all are doing well.
will keep u posted. later

We are doing OK. My wonderful wife has spoken with her WC attorney who also does SSD and he has his firm working on applying for her. She saw her pain management doctor yesterday and he agreed that she can not work at all in a retail management job nor much at any type of job really. He has given her information on an SCS and she is considering having one implanted.

My pain levels are about the same, but I have had extra hip pain for the past few weeks. It would not surprise me if a new one is in my future.

Blessing to everyone,

-Dave

I hope that you are able to make it through the summer with your pain under control enough. It's great that you have a doctor willing to schedule you when it is convenient for you, but also allow you to reschedule ASAP if the pain gets out of control. Enjoy your summer and get in all of the bending, twisting, and lifting that you need to before September 10th

HI JLWICKY -

thanks but i've already had one back surgery - went in thru stomach for L5-S1 Fusion and have been in chronic pains since. I cannot bend forwards/backwards nor can I twist and have not been able to lift anything over 10 lbs since the operation 2/08. my pains are worse now than before my surgery. I just need to have this other disc, L4-5 more stable as it floats so more hardware~~

Hi Joy!
I'm so sorry for all the pain that you have been going through. After reading your whole story I just can't imagine dealing with that kind of limited mobility and pain for as long as you have. I pray that surgery in the Fall gives you as much relief as possible. With any luck you can still enjoy the summer to the fullest extent possible. I was so pleasantly surprised by the way my family, friends, coworkers, and even my students helped me out when my pain was so bad, and I hope that you are surrounded by that same level of caring

Hi again -

yes I have a great family - we have a large house. My husband is very caring as is my youngest daughter. My hubby's father lives with us and we have been caring for him for almost 7 yrs and the last 2 yrs have been really hard as his dementia is getting real bad so my hubby's oldest niece, her hubby and their 5 yr old daughter moved in with us to help out (moved from VA to MO-big move) as hubby's niece is the oldest granddaughter and she was raised by hubby's father. so they are here to help both me and her gpa.

so yes I am surrounded by lots of caring and loving family.

It makes all the difference when you do~~Thanks~~
