Well surgery went well I can remember screaming crying and dropping several F bombs in recovery and they said to get me up to my room ASAP!!

Had horrible time with pain control they finally gave me a 5 mg Valium and that helped course had morph pain pump set for continuous in a way but still had to push it every5 minutes. They finally started me on my regular meds which at first they said they didn't carry the morph. Glad we went over it cause it was just Ms contin but they had something strange next to it.

I'm real real sore. Walked with walker and my cuz and I went outside real fast to smoke cigs. We have ECigs but just have to have that real thing.

Just quick update just don't think I'll get out til Monday so...........

Hi Bj,

So good to hear the surgery is over and you are up walking. I know this is a painful surgery and I have been wondering how you have been doing post op. Will continue to keep you in my prayers.

Here's something that really upset me. Thursday my surgeon said he was going out of town and I would see his partner. That's fine no problem there. So this doc tells me I will be released at around noon.

I asked nurse if I would have scripts to take home. She said she would let me know what they would send me home. She came back and said "You won't be sent home with any pain meds as the surgeon said my operation is a pain reduction operation and I won't need pain meds" .

I was very pissed at this. I still had my appointment with my pain doc on 12/11 which the nurse said if I needed any I should get them from primary doc or pain doc and wonder how they can determine so soon this operation would reduce or stop my pains.

I have follow up with surgeon on 12/19 and will talk to him about this. Ugh seeing red right now.

pain meds to get them from primary doc or pain doc. Ugh I am so mad but glad I have enough to get me by til Wednesday .

I just wonder how they can determine 3 days after surgery that my pains are going to be reduced enough that I won't need any pain meds at all???!!!

I have a follow up appointment on 12/19 with surgeon and will dis

I am sorry to hear this - like they know advance. I'd be upset too.

When my neurosurgeon told me I'd be on muscle relaxers for a long time after my forth surgery I'd thought that meant getting the original script with refills. Nope I had to keep calling the drs. office for the refill.

I recently ran out - so the pharmacy tried to contact my doctor and we didn't get a response during the 10 days, so they contacted my PCP and she filled it plus 11 refills. I was told to never be without it.

Sometimes I wonder about doctors. Glad you have an appt. with the pain specialist sooner than later. I will keep praying for you. Debbie

I HOPE I AM WRONG,BUT I BELIEVE YOU ARE SEEING THE TIP OF THE (NEW)ICE BURG.
THAT IS MORE AND MORE DR'S ARE HESITANT TO SCRIPT
OPIOIDS,DUE TO THE BAD PRESS THEY ARE GETTING.

I ALSO BELIEVE "WE" IN HONEST PAIN WILL PROBABLY NEED TO FIGHT HARDER FOR OUR PAIN MEDS IN THE FUTURE.
SO AS I HAVE DONE, KEEP FIGHTING FOR THE MEDICATIONS YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO LIVE A LIFE AS WELL AS POSSIBLE.

I think you hit the nail on the head Terry, unfortunately. Bad press, plus government clampdowns I think, or something to that effect by the FDA on pain meds. and then throw in the fact that more and more pharmacies at least in my part of the country, sadly, are being constantly held up. And I agree you will have to continue to press your case with regards to pain meds. esp with the Dr's. BUT, if your already established ( on some form of pain meds.) like many of us already are, myself included are, and your case is "legitiment",by that I mean, your on them for a good ( legitimate reason) and history is established, I don't think there should be a problem. At least from what I know. Stay tuned and informed. I am.

Hi Joy, well I really hope your pains have been reduced by now, as the dr. said . So what does a dr. know that never had the surg. himself. They should go through the pain for a time, to know what it feels like. We got 6 in. of snow yest. so to clean the walk I swept it with a broom, that was fun. Have to skip the shoveling for now. Funny today I have a pain patch on my side (sweeping).
Well I hope your getting back on your feet so you can enjoy Christmas. God Bless, ~Deach~

Hey Deach- good to hear from you. We only had a dusting of snow but the roads.

Well I can honestly say my pain levels are a 10 and my right leg is numb. I got out of hospital last Friday afternoon and have not had any phone calls from the hospital or the doc's office .

Hmmmm the first time I had back surgery I had 2 calls from hospital and 3 calls from doc's office . That time I went in Monday morn and releaaed following morning. This time in Wednesday morning and out Friday afternoon. And my doc was out of town and some jackass partner tries to tell me I don't need pain meds cause surgery was pain reduction surgery. Who the F'ing is this guy. Glad I have pain appointment wednesday.

Thanks for ur post. Watch out for the snow etc and work that comes with it. Take care ~~

Hi Bj,

This makes me so angry. How stupid can they be! Why is it, anything related to pain reduction, gets treated as a completely different post op routine? They would never take this approach with other patients with incisional pain.
