Called University Hospital

I found the dept I needed to be in - Spine Center and called their office. First must have a doc referral form faxed in.

I have the form printed and will take it to my PA doc and have them fill it out then will fax to them.

I was searching the dept of surgeons and found several as you have to have this on the form. While searching I found they have a Spine Center closer to where I live!!! And the doc that headlines there is the one I really wanted to see so this is good.

Am hoping I can get in this place a lot sooner than the actual Hospital as the wait is very very long.

As of yesterday (friday) I did not hear back from surgeon - so really getting ticked off.

Hope everyone has a low pain weekend~~

Sounds like a plan of action is headed your way. I hope the PA can fax the form in asap so you can get in fast. I will be praying for you.

Sorry to say but I think your surgeon is a jerk for not at least calling you with the results. Time to move on. Debbie

I hate the waiting and the calling, the voice mails, the forms...call again, get ignored again...the hold music.

We battle our pain and endless beurocracy. Every morning in check my list, start making phone calls and wonder if it will ever end.

Thanks for responding Debbie and Tim.

I will keep everyone posted on what happens. I think I may have a better chance of getting in at the center closer to me. I don't think I'd be able to drive to the main hospital as I would be in tears and in so much pain plus the main hospital is massive and parking let alone walking to the right dept would kill me

Tim I agree and.understand bout the phone calls voice mail etc ans was surprised that I didn't have to do that, yet. Keep ur chin up Tim.

Debbie how have u been? What's the latest? R u feeling.OK?

Hi Deb

Had my pain appt yesterday and when I asked bout filling in the referral form they said since they r a specialist they cannot refer a patient to see another specialist. What they mean is they really don't.do referrals. Especially since they don't have anything to do with the university.

The PA I saw asked if.I had picked out a surgeon to see. I told her that I did have one picked out but when I caaled to see if I could get appt with this one they said he had retired and the campus closer to me was named after him!!

This new PA said she did an intern there so she knew some of the surgeons so I brought my paper out with all the names I wrote down. She gave me the names of each one an Orthodox and Neuro. I was happy at this. She said referral needs to come from my primary doc. So I called my docs office and I have appt wed the 16th at 7:45. I am very happy bout that as he has been very concerned.

I will keep u posted. Thanks Deb~~

Hey Deb forgot to tell u all bout the increase in Fentanyl patches. Well seems I started having allergic reactions of severe nausea and migraines so I stopped the patches Monday morning and went back on morphine. Its ironic cause within a couple hours the migraines went away. Even taking ibuprofen didn't phase them. I was constantly eating small stuff every second trying to keep food in my stomach cause the nausea was so bad. So.......

I talked to the PA and told her all this. So back on morphine but she did call my pharmacist and taking the 100mg 2X daily is lots cheaper than the 60mg 4X daily . The 60mg was $267 and the 100mg was $141. So LOTS cheaper. So I was a very happy camper!! Thanks Deb~~

Joy, my wonderful wife had an esi yesterday with steroid and is doing OK. She passed out during the procedure but they revived her and all was find. She has already noticed a reduction in her pain levels of about 20%. The rhizotomies and the esi's will probably be the way she goes about once or twice per year.

I just had full x-rays of my spine from T down through S. My conditions have gotten worse and there is a lot of bone on bone, especially in my right hip which is the most painful. I am working now to get a full spinal MRI (the insurance company want the x-rays first) and then see the physiatrist next week for diagnosis, analysis and a treatment plan. I am really hoping he can help.

It is a beautiful day in WNY - temp got to mid 60's with sunshine. I think that spring has finally arrive.

Hope you are all having a blessed and wonderful Wednesday.

Hi Joy and thanks for asking - my surgery for my ileostomy is being put on hold until my surgeon comes back from a conference for "trouble ostomies" she is taking my case file with her and doing a case study on me cause of all the problems I have had since the original surgery July 2013.

I have 3 kinds of surgery on the table right now - and she'll be finding out which one will be the best for my situation. How cool is that? A doctor who actually admits I do not know for sure what to do.

So in the meantime I will be praying that Lilly my ileostomy behaves until May 15th when I have my next appt. Debbie
