Question about testing for surgery

I am considering weight loss surgery and have been researching for awhile now and I was looking at what procedures you have to get done before you actually have surgery. One, in particular, really worries me. I read somewhere that you might have to have an endoscopy. And that is really scary for me. I can't even get dental work done because I am terrified of things in my throat. (there is reason for this, I am not just afraid of the what if). Anyways, this nearly shied me away from the whole surgery idea. So I thought I would ask others who have gone through it if this is required for everyone or if it depends on the surgeon/case? Also, for those who have had it done, how bad is it? Can they knock you out so you don't have to have any part of it? I know this is no reason to not have it, to not get healthy. But I want to know how bad it can get before I ask my new doctor about it. Thanks.

It depends on a few things... probubly the biggest would be which kind of surgery are you looking at? The by pass is going to be different from the band. Call your insurance and see what is covered! I did and they will only cover one anyway. Find out where the surgery would be done and company name ect. They have seminars to go find out info on all the surgeries. It won't cost to ask questions
