okay, i'm new to these boards here. i have been wanting to get a bariatric procedure done for years and have finally gotten approval through my insurance. i just had my initial referal consultation and have been approved through to the nest round. i have my information session set up for may 11th. i'm still a little nervous and was wondering if anyone had any advice or thoughts or questions that i should keep in mind during my upcoming appointments. i've never had any surgery before (except for the removal of my wisdom teeth!) is there anything else i should know? i'm strongly considering the lap band option but i haven't had my official consultation with the surgeon yet. anyways, hope everyone is having a great day

would discuss with him the pro/con's of Lap band vs Realize vs Gastric Sleeve vs Bypass to see what he thinks is the best option for you and then ask him why he prefers one over the other.

keep in mind too the some, not all Dr's reccomend one over the other because some are paid extra by the companies for one over the other...

Keep an open mind and just take your time to think it through

Much Love,

I had gastric bypass over 10 yrs ago now. I lost over 120 lbs, have kept it off, felt great and been happy with my decision to do this fully realizing that it was not a miracle FIX and I needed to change my eating habits for LIFE - which I have done. The only draw back I have now faced starting just this year is bone loss <osteoporosis> and extreme iron deficiency due to malabsorbtion issues all relating to this surgery. ASK the surgeon/doctor if they have determined any way to prevent this now, in the years since I had this surgery or IF LAPBAND gives you the same success & outcome WITHOUT this consequences maybe. If it does, personally I would consider that above the gastic bypass. I have had to give myself b-12 injections monthly since the surgery and with the calcium & iron troubles now facing which my insur company is refusing to pay for to give me the IV Calcium & Iron - I am in a tough spot now. THAT would be my biggest concern & question.
