I was bouncing from true mania to mild depression for quite awhile this year. My psychiatrist said that for some reason I was having an increase in episodes and we were not sure why. Call your psychiatrist and let him know you think you may be heading toward mania. I know once I'm there, I have no sense of reality or ability to judge my own behavior. It's best to be proactive before the serious symptoms knock you out. The consequences of not catching mania before it becomes dangerous are huge. Your psychiatrist needs to know that whatever he's doing may not be working for you.

Hello Denise,

You are fortunate to be in a situation where your maturity is teaching you signs of our illness. Depression sucks. Butt mania can be harder to recognize as you describe.

Seek professional help and remember that medications most often can stabilize your moods. (I tried a dozen, it seems) Remember that practice can be a mentor while learning patience. We here on the board have got your back. Reply soon. - goat

[TRIGGER] have been through 2 manic attacks. one, i tried killing myself and the other was just lots of sucidial thoughts; both times i admit myself to the hospital. i think i have fairly decent understanding of it but sometimes it changes and im lost again. i was going through depression really, psych dr put me on for that then i started feeling like i was into a manic attack. can it change that quickly? can the med change bring you out of depression but send you into a manic attack? manic attack are what scare me the most; i loss all rational thinking.

Hello Denise, Different medications can cause you to be manic. My pdoc doenst like to put me on anti depressants because he is afraid I will become manic. Ive also noticed that my pain medication can cause me to be manic as well.

(TRIGGER) If you start to feel suicidal then please go to the ER or call the suicide hot line. Perhaps you could even have a friend stay with you so that your not alone at home. Do what you have to do in order to stay safe.

hugs to you.
