Open to advice please: Depression lingering and lingering

I feel like I'm totally stuck in this depression from which I can't seem to escape. It's not so much that I'm in pain as I feel absolutely nothing and totally disconnected from everyone. I just drag through the work day waiting for it to end. On weekends I curl up on my bed and stay there all day listening to my I-POD. It's been 4 weeks now. My psychiatrist wants me to just hang in there and let it run its cycle because the antidepressents we've tried in the past push me into full blown mania with psychotic delusions and hallucinations. I trust him completely and he's never been wrong about me but right now I feel absolutely defeated and trapped. I'm open to advice. I really do not know what to do.

There are many evidence-based treatments for bipolar depression that -- unlike traditional antidepressants -- have been shown to work better than a placebo without destabilizing mood....including Seroquel, Symbyax, Mirapex, Riluzole, and Nuvigil, among others. Under "Resources" on this webpage are some videos that discuss the evidence-based treatment options for bipolar depression, which may be worth reviewing and then discussing with your psychiatrist.

Thanks Dr. G. My psychiatrist is always open to ideas I bring to him so I will ask him about your suggestions. My depression cycles are just not normally this intense or this long. I don't know why I have a pattern change.
