All i want to do is get help for this. It doesn't help that my body has a weird way of meds just wearing off idk i would just like to make it day by day without feeling like i need to run and not stop

The problem you are having in finding the right medication or mixture of medication is a common one. I have been on at least 20 different medications since being diagnosed (first with depression, then finally with BP). Your help is going to come from your psychiatrist. You need to tell him/her what side effects you are having and be willing to try other medications.

I agree with Anne. Unfortunately, change doesn't happen very easily. It took me a lot of meds before I found what worked for me. I found lithium rather early on and knew that it helped...but not completely. Then it just took me a while and trying different things before I found what worked along with it for me (for me that is wellbutrin). I have felt so many side effects with different meds. I have been manic, dizzy, numb, skin problems, tired all the time, tummy problems...but oddly enough, the meds have now do not cause me any noticeable side effects. My body does take some time to adjust to meds but then the side effects can go away...when you say the meds "wear off", could it be that? And maybe you need to up the dose?
You need to trust your doctor. And...you need to trust yourself. My first pdoc didn't listen to me. It was my 2nd pdoc...and especially my 3rd pdoc that truly helped me.
Good luck

Hi Charles_88

I'm curious if your pdoc has ever mentioned to you trying an MAOI such as Nardil or EmSam (a patch)?

I had tried several different medications and they either made me sick or simply didn't work or made me worse...I then was put on Nardil and have been on it ever since, which has been 20 years now. I also take Lithium. Not saying that an MAOI would work for you, but it's worth asking your doctor about.

Good luck
Debbie

no i feel i can feel like lose grip of my emotions when i am on the meds especially if i am already getting upset when the meds are working i can feel a barrier of some sorts keeping calm but at times it just seems that the barrier gets shattered and i am no longer able to control my emotions especially anger and anxiety

That is not uncommon. It took me more than a decade and several pdocs to get me properly diagnosed. During that time, my meds were changed many times and it wasn't until less than 3 years ago that I was diagnosed with bp and put in a med combo that worked. And that didn't come without side effects: I suffered from blurry vision, was shaking badly and feeling like a zombie. But the side effects faded away with time and I got better and better.

Also, keep in mind that taking the right meds doesn't mean that you will be symptom free all the time. I still have days when I feel depressed or wired, but it doesn't evolve into either depression or mania. A good therapist should help you cope with that. Good luck!

Charles, MAOI's such as Nardil is not habit forming, so I'm not sure if we're talking the same medication. I would talk with your pdoc about it.
