I know that none of you here know my sister (1 of 2), so this won't mean anything to you personally; but she had a colonoscopy a couple days ago and they found to large polyps, which turned out to be cancerous. The doctor is doing further biopsies on them as it's not certain yet if that means my sister has cancer,or that the polyps were removed in tiime, or whatever else they are looking at - I don't understand most of what my sister said re what they were looking for.

She has a follow up doctor apt on the 22nd of this month, though we both assume that if they find something in the biopsies that require immediate attention, they will call her before the 22nd. So I'm hoping that there's no phone call. More than that, I'm hoping for no cancer. I don't understand how the polyps can be cancerous but her not necessarily have cancer. I don't know, but I hope that's true.

So if you are a praying person or could send some positive energy her way, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Debbie

The polyps can be malignant but if the cancer hasn't spread she should be fine.. But if they weren't able to remove all of the cancerous tissue or it had already spread to the surrounding tissue then she may be in for cancer treatment, such as chemo/radiation etc... That's what I remember from working with a urologist treating bladder cancer.. bladder tumors could be malignant but if they were removed in time the patient could be in full remission... I'm not sure if it's the same dealing with the colon, so this may be a question better answered by a physician, but I hope the info I gave you is of some help...

Thank you, Mozzergurl

I'm hoping that they got it all out and that maybe all she'd have to do is have a colonoscopy every year to keep an eye on it.

Right now it's the not knowing that is bugging her the most, which would be the same for me.

Thanks for your input!

Your welcome Debbie,

I will be praying for your sisters well being and that the cancerous tissue was fully removed... Tell her to keep her head and keep faith that everything will be ok. and tell her not to stress about it until she finds out what the outcome of the biopsies is, no point in stressing about the unknown... I know that's easier said than done, but it's worth a try... I understand that the not knowing is the worst but keep her distracted, talk to her about pleasant things and pray with her... Show her plenty of love and affection so she doesn't feel alone in her worries.. The best thing for any patient in her situation is having family and friends that are loving, caring and supportive... They have better health and recovery outcomes from what I experienced working in the medical field for 9 years...

Debbie,

Two years ago my dad had back surgery and they found several tumors in his back. Turned out he had lymphoma. Two rounds of radiation, one of chemo, and a stem cell transplant later, I'm glad to say he's in remession and has been since May. I'm sure that whatever your sister's outcome may be that she'll come through it fine with the support of you and her family and friends. I'll be praying for her and you both. Til the outcome is known take care my friend and stay strong.

My dad had a colonoscopy a little while back and they found some small polyps and removed them. They were not cancerous so it is true that there can be polyps and they could be nothing important. I would assume that they would call her right away if there was cancer so I hope this means that the polyps are nothing. I will keep my fingers crossed for her.

Thanks lexismom, acutally, they already found the polyps are cancerous - they're just doing further testing to see if they already spread in her system or not.

Oh, Ok. Well I hope it hasn't spread yet. It will be easier to treat her. Thank goodness she had the colonoscopy and caught it now.
