ECT Helpful for Bi-Polar symptoms?

I was told by a Psychairtrist that treated me for a period of time while I was on an extended visit to Florida that ECT was effective in treating Bi-Polar I and II symptoms. Any data on this form of treatment?

Dear Melissa, For many decades ECT has been widely regarded as an appropriate, safe and effective treatment for any phase of bipolar disorder. Studies date from the 1970s and 1980s. There have not been many meaningful studies of ECT in bipolar disorder since those days. Dr. G.
