Managing side effects

Joseph F Goldberg, MD posted:
Dear all,

From time to time questions have come up on this site about medication side effects and their management. I wanted pass along a book title, Managing the Side Effects of Psychotropic Medications" (American Psychiatric Publishing, 2012) that covers a lot of practical information about figuring out if something is or isn't a likely drug side effect, differentiating dangerous from merely annoying side effects, how to weigh drug risks versus benefits, and strategies for managing common side effects. Though it's written mainly for clinicians, it is a fairly user-friendly text that's accessible to most informed lay readers.
