Colors of Depression
ddnos posted:
Depression comes in many shapes, colors, and sizes
Sometimes it's blue and pressed flat against the floor
It struggles to get up
It feels hopelessly heavy
So it lays there until internal or external help arrives

Every once in a while it is shaped like a beautiful flower
Nobody sees its existence
It hides within the fabric of each colorful petal
Tears are the nutrients that keep it alive

Sometimes it is clothed in red
Red is a fortress
It is strong
But it's just a distraction
It's an impostor
Red is anger

Sometimes its a lingering presence
It keeps its distance
But its always there to remind me
That it's not too far away

Depression comes in many shapes, colors, and sizes
But it's not bigger than me
It doesn't define me
It's a part of me
But it's not who I am

WOW!!! Debbie, that is really a great poem. Ya know, once I did an abstract painting that I called Bipolar. I did it in Black, Gold and Red. Black stood for depression, red was courage and Gold was happiness. Also parts of the painting was lumpy, you could run your hand across it and feel the lumps. I called the lumps the Speed Bumps of Life.
