Bipolar and pregnancy
sarika01 posted:
I suffer from bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. I have taken many medicines, but currently am on three. I am 38 years old and wish to get pregnant this year. The drugs I take are Lexapro 5 mg, Buspirone 15 mg, and Geodon 40 mg. My question is how safe are these during pregnancy. WebMD is great place to find answers. I hope I can get answers from experts here.

Thank you

the best person to ask would be your doctor.

Dear Sarika, The very short answer is that there are no known risks in pregnancy with any of the drugs you mentioned, but judging unknown risks against possible benefits is a very case-by -case process. Your doctor should be discussing this with you and your husband in depth. If need be you might also consider a consultation with a psychiatrist who has expertise in reproductive health. The women's health center at Mass General in Boston should be able to assist in finding a good consultant if needed. Dr G
