Triple trouble
nopoin posted:

I'm 36 and recently been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and borderline personality disorder, then you mix in a little self injury and you get triple trouble. I'm not sure how to handle all of it, I understand the meaning of them but how they can effect the lives of my family, are these disorders genetic? are my kids at risk? And why do so many disorders list Self - Injury as part of their make up? If you know the answers please tell me.

I have been diagnosed with BPD also. I'm 58 years old and have severe mental problems. 3 weeks ago I tried suicide, which I have done more than I remember. I also had major depression for many years. My doctor always thought I was dealing with more than that. I have a new doctor. After my episode in the hospital, she handed me a paper with the signs of BPD. I'm actually relieved to know what's been going on with me for years. Hearing voices, suicidal urges all the time, a severe belief that people hate me, are watching me, being afraid so much, and my huge anger. I did research on the computer ( this site has some information, so does the Mayo clinic and other reputable sites ) this illness may be genetic, however many suffer from BPD because of childhood trauma. I know it is going to be a hard thing for me, but knowing does help and explains some of my behavior. I hope you can do some research and feel better about this.
