Hi Ladies and Gents.

Oh Boy, my daughter is ready to dis-own ME!! When she called me on Sunday she was trying to help me with orgainizing my pictures on this new computer. Well, of course, I got the pic so big it covered the whole screen. I saw NO-Way to get out of it. No "X's" in the corner and no back arrow. Then the pics started going into a slide-show. I told her--"HELP---I can't get out of here!" With that she said,(so disgusted like) "Mom, Hit the key marked ESC!!!!" Oh my gosh, I got to laughing so hard---I couldn't talk. Stated, " Oh NO is that what that key is for?"

When my little grand-son was 2 yrs old he was showing me how his games worked. Suddenly he reached over the keyboard and hit a key. I was so shocked and said, " Oh Matt, what did you Do?" I was thinking he done something weird to his Dad's computer. He is laughing and said "watch this G'Ma my balloons will all come down!!!" And they filled the screen--so cute.

Oh---my gosh, a 2 yr old knew how to hit the escape key and that was 16 years ago. This ole' lady had no idea what that key was for and has never used it until Sunday. Now you see why I was laughing so hard!!!!! I know if I could have seen my daughter she would have been throwing her arms in the air or pounding her forehead. .

Every time I think about this I get the giggles.

But HEY, I have learned so much about the computer in the last 12 yrs so it can't be all bad, Right?

Just thought I would add a little cheer to the board today. We all need to laugh more.

Hope everyone is having beautiful weather.
Still laughing in WA state.

Jan,
Love your story so funny because that is how I am with computers I don't know much at all. Just the basics enough to get on here and to check my mail that is about it. I try to get pics on here it doesn't work so I give up I have no idea why it doesn't work I have tried everything you told me to do and Rachael has told me. It still doesn't work so I gave up I even made the pics smaller like you said doesn't work. I may try again sometime but not right now it will make me pull all my hair out and it just came back in nice and full so not today.lol.lol. I like having my hair back to much lol.lol.
I know what you mean about the kids knowing more then us older people my sisters girls knew about computers in first grade and came over and tried to tell me and I had no idea what they were talking about. I just looked at them and said that is nice ya ah ha right shook my head a few times and acted like I knew what they were saying had no clue lol.lol. Thank god I didn't have a computer that worked at the time or I would have been in big trouble lol.lol.
I am glad you got that figured out and the pic off your screen the garden looks so big and I love the yard nice and green. how do you keep up with a garden that big ? Mine isn't even half that size and it is enough work for me to keep up with weeding and picking everything. Then I have my herb's I am thinking about having them in pots this year not in the ground much easier and less bending to weed them out and pick as I need them. Hoping to get out there this weekend and do some work getting it ready for planting. Gardening is so much fun but a lot of work too. Wishing you more nice weather have a great day angel hugs Roberta,

Oh, my!!! I am not only laughing, but sharing your befuddlements! Our budget had no allocated monies for a home computer, but I decided I needed to enter the 21st Century before I left this earth, and so I took a computer class! I may not have the machine, but, darn it all, I was going to know how to work one!!

The class lasted several weeks, and, since I had no way to go home and practice what was covered each time, I fumbled along. I left it knowing how to turn a computer on...! Yep!! That's about it!!

Shortly after my initiation into the world of techno-stuff, I took another class...This one was in film-making. For it, the use of the computer was imperative! But...I WAS PREPARED!! I had taken a class!!!

I went into the first class where computers wsere used...Beside me sat some very yong, very tecno-able smartie whiling away creating cartoons and modifying them while the professor gave his lecture. Okay...Now came the moment...We would actually begin to use the machines for our creative efforts. I began well, being able to turn it on!! YEA!!!

Next,. we were to move the cursor down. Okay! Wait a minute!!! Mine didn't respond!! I picked up the mouse and kept moving it here, there and everywhere, but the darned cursor just sat looking at me!! I knew it must be that the mouse was not working, and let the professor know.

It soon became apparent what the trouble was...ME!!!!!! All those hours in class, all my false belief that I had some knowledge of how a computer worked, and somehow I had never learned/noted/seen that on the bottom of the mouse was a little wheel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holding the implement in the air and moving it left and right and up and down would do little to change where the cursor was on the screen. (Of course, had we had the wireless mouses they now have, my ignorance would not have been quite so apparent, but that was not the case!!)

So, dear Friend, the next time you are amazed at how limited you are technologically, just think of me and feel like Wonder Woman!!!

Blessings
Rachael

All your computer stories make me chuckle! I take the technology for granted, I've worked on a PC or had my own since 1983, so sometimes I forget that it's not just "natural" for everyone, especially our generation.

Thanks for the smiles, I'm in need of them today. I'll start a separate post for, as Paul Harvey used to say, "the rest of the story."

Jan,
It was a great day to read all your computer stories! I spent 2 hours today with tech support at my office trying to get some programs working and when they did and I said what caused they problem, they basically said "we don't know, these things just happen". I know I couldn't live without my computer but sometimes I do want to fling it out the window.

I like the escap comment Rachael - it sounds great to me right about now!!!

Oh LOL--LOL---Rachael. Hey, you took a class. So did I but I did have a computer 12 yrs ago. Only thing was the college had Word and Excel. I couldn't drive fast enough to get home after class and use my info.

Waaa--Laaa!! Guess What???

My dumb 'puter had Word Perfect on it---not Word or Excel. All the tool bars were different---most of the icons were different. I was so disappointed but didn't know why this was. Went to class the next week and asked the professor. Stated I must have something entirely different on mine. UGH. I thought all computers were the same. NOT!!!

I finished the 6 week course, anyway and stumbled thru it. Now when we need a new one---First question DOES it have Word and Excel. LOL LOL.

I do love this one with Win-7. Sometimes it does NOT like me. LOL.

Love your story Rachael. Thanks for letting me know I am not the only illereate one out there!!!

Oh the computer. At times I think that I am pretty good at figuring one out, then like you Jan, I get something that I have not idea of what is happening, so I just turn it off and start over again. My best computer story is when I would call a friend how to spell a word and she would always say, use spell check, I do but it doesn't work if you do not know how to spell the word.

I will have to say that the lit le grandkids today are all born technology savvy, but I bet when they get to our age, they will have what we have today, learning and living life through the hard knocks of life and been a better person for it.

I hope that all is well

Love to all

Mary

P.s I still have not figured out how to put the smiley faces into my messages like you all do, so how is that.....it is probably a no brainer.
