Little up-date on my Mother.

Hi All,
Thank goodness, Thank goodness, I had changed Onc Dr. last year. I sincerely thank my friends for kicking me in the butt and go see a super-duper Doctor as he couldn't have been nicer to my mother.

Before our appt yesterday I delivered a letter to him on Wed, explaining about my Mother's dementia, (10 minute memory now) and her other history. Suggested we don't confuse her more by calling this bc but perhaps an infection. I and my daughter didn't want her confused that I had an reoccurence. I kind of knew that wouldn't fly as he is so honest and would never lie to any patient.

Asked the nurse if he had read my letter. Everyone assured me they had all read it. WOW---what a concept!!!! An office that goes their job.

He comes in and starts asking my Mom a few questions, which she did answer very well. Only repeated 3 times her Mother had died with bc.... Other than that she sat there and acted like she understood everything he said. I was amazed.

Up-date is we are going to go with a mammo as he needs more questions answered. Said thought it was a papilloma or possible blood clot. Couldn't really tell by US. He then ordered "soft-Paddles" to be used.---- AHA---Why don't they order those for us????

Depending on the findings of mammo, possibly send her to my surgeon--possibly do a local and remove the papiloma. Asked her if she would be willing to take a pill, (tamoxifen-Fermara and or ??) She says "Yes, I suppose so". I told him as long as not in a patch-form like when we tried the Excelan patch for her memory. She blamed every hang-nail, toe ache, eye itch and everything on that darn patch. LOL She became so aggiated and upset that the nurse (at her assisted place) and I decided it wasn't worth it for her. And her PCP agreed.

Now for the corker!!!!! On the way home I asked her what she thought the Dr had said to her. "He didn't check the spot on my arm!!!" Told her "Yes, he did and it is not a cancer but a mole!" She honestly has no clue that she might have bc!!!! Was more worried about getting back to her place in time for dinner. UGH. I think it is just as well to leave her in her own little world.

The Dr did say she might have bc---did not call it an infection. (See I knew he wouldn't, LOL) He did say he called her PCP and discussed her. So I know he didn't come in the room NOT knowing things about my Mom. Geez, he is so Great.

One funny thing---You know I was going to say something funny, Right??? He was trying to un-do her bra---Which hooks in the front. He was fumbling around when I stood up to help him with my comment, "Boy, you are sure slow at that!!! I thought you would have had been faster-being a man!!!" Geez, I did get him laughing. He said "Well, no need anymore!!!!"

So now we wait for schedules. I did tell the nurse no appts on Mon or Fri afternoons. Those are her BINGO days. We laughed. My Mom maybe can't remember a lot of things but she knows her Bingo days. LOL.

Thanks for everyone's support on this. You are all the best. I have been a nervous-wreck now for 2 weeks. Not real sure why as I knew we were NOT going to treat this aggressively. But really worried what he might order. Should have know better.

Fondly
Jan

Thanks so much, Michelle, for your concern about my Mom. I have great local friends that put me in touch with this Dr. I thank both of them weekly by phone and nightly in my prayers.

I am happy you guys are still going to Paris. When I read your post with the crappiest of news---I worried you were going to have to cancel. Go---Have loads of fun---and Good for you guys to have a "NO ca zone"!!!! You and your family are such an inspiration to all of us. Take loads of pics to share on here. You can get pics on here when none of the rest of us can.

Yep, we are taking small steps. After yesterday when he handled my Mom so gently---I was so relaxed. But of course, I knew she hadn't comphrehended anything. Oh Well. at this point it does NOT matter what-so-ever.

Did you have to buy another pillow? I sure have had to buy several in the past years!!! It does help tho, and doesn't hurt your hands like it you pound the heck out of the wall.

Sending loads of cyber-hugs.

Thanks Roberta. Yep, her bingo afternoons are very precious to her. They even play for Quarters here. At her other place they only played for prizes, which she thought was DUMB!! She can always remember if she wins or not. Usually she wins at least once. One day she was so upset as she slept thru the time for bingo. So now, I try my best to call her about 3 pm to wake her up. So funny.

Most times I can't remember. UGH.

She has her hair done every Thurs. Yesterday she was to get a perm at 10:30 AM. So at 8:30 she walks down there only to find out she was way to early. Then I kept calling her to get her down there at the right time. LOL. She never wakes up until 11. Just in time to get dressed, make her bed and get to dinner at noon. When she has an early AM appt she gets really confused.

Thanks loads for the good thoughts and prayers. I feel so much better today, thank goodness. I have no idea WHY I was so upset. Just the thought of her having bc when I know she used to be so terrified of getting it. I hope they decide NOT to so any surgery but will have to wait and see what mammo results are.

Jan,
That is so funny they play for Quarters does she get enough to get herself a good treat every now and again lol.lol. I knew when my gram plaeyed they got some really bad prizes she didn't like them either but liked playing just fro something to do and to spend time with the other ladies.
I know what you mean with trying to remember to call her and remember her appts and yours that is a lot to remember I can't even do that with my own I have to put them into my phone to remind me plus I put the cards on my frig and write them on the calender. I still forget sometimes until my phone goes off an hour before my appt telling me I have one lol.lol. So don't feel bad if you forget we all have some of those times I know I do a lot of the time I even turn my reminder off sometime get doing something and forget all over again what I was supposed do lol.lol. Have a great day and weekend hopefully a sunny one out in your garden enjoying yourself. Angel hugs Roberta,

GGrandmaJan replied to brcansur's response:
Roberta, Oh no buy anything for herself. NOT!!! If I think she could really need this or that, I buy it for her with her money. LOL.

A few yrs ago, my daughter gave her a cute jar all decorated with $30.00 worth of quarters for her bingo. Oh my Gosh, she thought that was the greatest gift ever!! And it was. So thoughtful of my daughter. Then what does my Mom do???? Hides it and I still haven't found the jar after 2 1/2 yrs. UGH.

But she did take some quarters out first and put them in a pill bottle to always have with her.

So funny. How in the world could she hid a medium size jar in a one bedroom apt is beyond me. LOL She was always hiding her black purse. One day we were going for an appt and it had her medicare card--supplement ins card---driver's licence (for ID only. I went thru that place lickety-split and finally found it behind her trunk. That is when I told her O.K. that's it. No more purse. Oh boy, she was mad. I put all the stuff in her fanny pack brought the purse home with me.

Well, that only lasted a few months. Then she hid her fanny pack. I finally found it in the bottom of her clothes hamper, of all places. Don't have a clue what made me look there.

That is when I got really smart!!!! Better late than never, Right?

I took her medicare card-suppl Ins card and her Drivers license out of it and put them in my wallet. She never leaves the place unless I take her so I feel that is pretty safe. It can get pretty nuts around there at times. LOL

Jan,
Glad to hear that both you and your mom are in such good hands - even if they don"t know how to unhook a bra!
Sounds like YOU were very proactive in prearing the whole staff which made their job easier - good for you!
Hope all continues to go smoothly for you and mom. I am so glad you can now exhale and enjoy the weekend!
Much love,
Judy

GGrandmaJan replied to judyfams's response:
Thank you Judy, I do try to be proactive but usually fall far short of that one. LOL. I really couldn't believe the Dr and his nurses read the letter. Thank goodness.

Yep, today just making more appts and trying to fit them in with my schedule and my Mothers. Not easy some days. I just don't have the energy to go downtown 2 days in a row. So try my best to space them out.

AHA---then the days I do have at home---like today----I am on this computer all day. Go Figure!!! But I really love it.

O.K. got to get out to my garden. It got very cold here last night and I covered all my little plants up. Geez, the middle of May and almost froze. Weird.

What a super report on so many levels, Jan!! You did set the ground work in motion and had the good medical team who picked it up and ran with it!! (Can you clone that doc??!!) And, how wonderful it will be if she doesn't have to deal in any way with bc!!!

Regarding your daughter's thoughtful gift to grandma and it disappearing...It reminded me of my MIL who would always put things that she thought had some sort of value (from checks to tiny screws) in, what she termed, "the safe place"!! This practice began long before Al Summers came to visit. When she died, we had to clean out the house (over 50 years accumulation), and never did discover "the safe place"!!!! It rivaled Ft. Knox!!

Keeping you both in my thoughts that the new tests prove no bc!!

Give Mom my best, okay?? Hugs for you both!

This is great new for you and your mom. It sounds like you truly picked a super doctor - and what a great difference that makes!!!!

Best to your mom on her gentle mammo. Never heard of that one before - must inquire next time I go about it!!!

I hope you all get to relax and have a great weekend. I have been planting flowers all day, first at my mom's then at my house. Now I just want to sit around and relax for a while and enjoy them.

~ hugs, blessings, and of course flowers ~

Jan,
Oh how you have just put a big smile on my face with this post just remebering my gram and how she used to put things away lol.lol. That is what she called it I just think she forgot where she put them and most of the time it wasn't in the right place that is for sure. Like the time she put her knitting in the frig and the cold cuts in her knitting basket so funny we all had a good laugh at that one. I went to the frig to get a drink a few min after she had made herself some lunch and there sat her knitting I asked her if she was trying to keep her socks she was working on cool she just looked at me and funny and said no why? I said because they are sitting in the frig so she looked into her knitting basket and just started laughing and said well I'll be be a donkeys ass and laughed even harder. She said ya and the cold cuts are keeping my knitting basket cool also !! We all laughed and just said she must have been really thinking hard about eating her lunch and just not paying attention to what she was doing ! But that is when we started watching her closer for other signs she was putting things in the freezer also that did not belong there and all kinds of crazy things. We just had to laugh at some of them but you also worry a little at the same time because you want them to be safe too. Be cause if they are doing little things like this we are wondering if she is turning the stove on and forgetting about it but thank god she never did hurt herself or any one else but we did get a lot of laughs along with her before she passed at the age of 89.
But the jar of $30.00 and she hid it that is just to funny it was meant to help her play more bingo and you still can't find it in that small room that is so very funny. I tell you they can really hide things well we should take lessons from them. I just wish I could hide things that well but my thing is I would forget where I put it and then have to go out and get another one of what ever it was I hid lol.lol. Or I would have to have a list of where I put everything so it really wouldn't help because the list would have to be someplace that I could see it or I would forget where that was too. lol. Oh well that is what chemo does to us so we just get a lot of good laughs on ourselfs thanks for a good laugh and some really good memories. Have a great day now I am off to the Zoo get together takes about 1 1/2 hours to get there so have to go talk to you soon. angel hugs Roberta,
Roberta

Hi Ya Rachael, So sorry for not answering your awesome post. I have been very busy trying to get my #4 Block going in my garden. It was suppose to rain on Fri but turned out so nice. Sat was suppose to rain and my little plants in their containers really need to get in the ground. UGH. Didn't make it tho.

Sat night I was out there picking up things I didn't want to get wet. Happy I did as Sun Am woke up to rain. Been raining all AM. I just knew this nice sunny weather was not going to last.

WOW, you guys never found your mother's "safe place"??? Mercy, I bet you had to go thru everything before you could think of discarding it. What a job that must have been for you. Besides being such a sad time in your life. I really feel how you much have felt. (Where is my emoctions?)

Had to change my Mother's mammo test until Thurs. So we will need the pinkie on Thurs at 1:30 pm not Wed.

Many thanks.

Hi Jenna, A-HA, When I called to set up my Mom's mammo, I stated the Dr ordered "Soft-Paddles" for her. Oh my gosh the tech laughed so hard. "Yeah, Right!" Guess the Dr said that for my benefit as there are NO such things around here!!! Go Figure!!!

Doc was real serious when he said that so guess he just doesn't know!!! LOL. Cause I told the tech I wanted those next time also. I guess we would have to go 100 miles north to Seattle to find "Soft Paddles". Kind of funny tho.

Thanks for your reply.

Hope you had a good week-end.
Hugs back at ya.
