I recently completed my 1st of of 4 chemo trmt, its been a week now I feel pretty good but have been experiencing some ??? side effects, I have a rash on my neck and bottom that itch something awful and doesn't seem to want to go away. I noticed some changes in my hair texture getting its really dry and the roof of mouth feels like iscrbbed it with sand paper. I would appreciate any assistance or even a kind word. I was told I would lose my hair soon which is ok. I really need help with the rash issues or just someone that understand I feel all alone with these issues.

Melody, I welcome you to the club no one would choose to join, but where you will find support, and understanding friends!

I did not have chemo so I cannot speak to this issue. However, from what i see, it often depends on what particular chemo you have as to side-effects. If you get more specific perhaps others can tell you of their experiences.

A word of caution: This being a long holiday weekend, I fear you may go without a response until about Tuesday. So, please don't get discouraged!! Folks will chime in eventually!

As for kind words and caring, that I can do! This journey is far from easy, but as one of our Warriors reminds us, it is "doable"!! Know you will be in my thoughts, and that I am hoping your journey is less difficult than you might even imagine!

Blessings.

Melody,
I had 6 rounds of cytoxan/taxotere chemo. As Rachael said each chemo combo has it's own unique set of side effects.
I did not get a rash, but I have heard of other women having that problem. My advice to you would be to call your medical oncologist to see if he can prescribe anything for the rash. Hopefully other ladies will be able to help you with that particular problem.
For the mouth problems, there is BIotene Mouthwash to rinse your mouth with a few times a day which can be bought over the counter. Also I keep lemon drops (hard candy) in my mouth which did help.
I do know there are other ladies here who have had the dry mouth worse than I did and they will post their remedies for you.
You are not alone with chemo side effects - the ladies here have had many different chemo combinations and they will help you - they are wonderful caring people.
If you cannot reach your oncologist due to the holiday weekend I would suggest that you ask your pharmacist to recommend over the counter remedies that can help you for a few days until you can speak to your doctor.
Please try to be patient over this long weekend and know that we are always here to support you as you go through your cancer treatments.
I wish you good luck and welcome you to a good place to be as you battle this disease.

Melody,
Which chemo drugs are you using? I had gotten some rashes
I don't think as severe as you. Some drugs require you to
stay out of the sun. If I didn't I could get rashy. Call your onc
they may want you to take something for it. They had me
take benadryl ( diphenhydramine) But ask your onc before
you take anything. I had horrible dry mouth. Biotene also
makes a gel you can put in your mouth that helps too. I had
the best luck with baking soda and salt water rinse. I did
like the biotene toothpaste though. Regular toothpaste
was just to strong. I am sorry you are loosing your hair.
I didn't like that. But you know I am still here and it grew
back. I want you to still be here, so hang in there!
hugs and strength,
Cindy

First, I want to thank you all for your support! I did go to see the pharmcist and was told to get the biotene mouth wash/tooth paste which is great. I recv'd a call fm the Doc Ofc to go to the ER on Fri, which I recv'd creams for the rash. I feel so much better now, that I didn't have to suffer through the holiday. The drugs I'm getting are Cyclophosphamide & Docetaxel. Thinking back, I do believe that I may have been in the sun, BIG mistake.
