tumor diagnosis

Just came back from Duke last night, exhausted from three appointments and MRI's. Met with the radiation oncologist who gave me lab results on the tumor, which was infiltrating ductal carcinoma, grade 3 ER+, PR-, an aggressive tumor she said. Meet with my surgeon again on Tuesday who give me results on the MRI and lay out a proposed treatment plan. Also meet with the chemo oncologist. They seem to have an excellent treatment center there.
I got to stay with my son and his new wife, a definite plus. They are about 20 minutes from Duke.
Any input welcome.
Best wishes to everyone,
Janie

Janie,
Sorry to hear the diagnosis - but now you know what you are dealing with and can decide what you want to do.
On Tuesday be prepared to ask your surgeon about whether you are a condidate for lumpectomy. And if you are you will have that decision to make.
If not then you need to think about whether or not you will opt for a uni or bilateral mastectomy which would mean a consult with a plastic surgeon if yu are considering reconstruction. Then there is the decision about what type of reconstruction and whether to have it done at the time of you bc surgery or at a later date. Insurane will pay for delayed reconstruction.
So you need to discuss your bc surgical options with your surgeon and then if you see a plastic surgeon you need to discuss the reconstruction options.
You do need to think about your quality of life and what you want done to your body. It is your choice to make and as I mentioned in an earlier post - it is not a matter of what's rght or wrong as much as it is what will give you peace of mind in the years to come.
As you make each choice please come back here and let us know - as you will then have excellent support from the ladies her who had the same treatment as you have chosen.
Good luck on Tuesday and let us know what the bc surgeon says.
We are all here ready to give you whatever support you need.
