I will be doing a clinical trial using ARQ-197. This trial is specific to metastatic triple negative BC, and I will be one of 26 in the US on this trial.

This will work with our trip to Hawaii and so I am extremely happy that Dr. Chen agreed that this was a good one for me. Lots of bloodwork and scans, but I see that as a good thing - someone is keeping very close tabs on this nasty beast.

Michelle, I know, I am so excited about the trip now that it seems that I can go. We're renting a house in Luberon with our two children and their spouses. My son-in-law has travelled extensively in France and knows a number of places nearby to visit.
I'll reiterate what a comfort it is to come here. I had dinner last night at my daughter's house, my son visiting too from Raleigh. I see the worry in their eyes, and they treat me as if I am newly so fragile. My son came by himself just to do some yard work for me and to cook some dinners that I could freeze. I thought this was incredibly sweet. But as much as I love being with them, it's so nice to come here where no one treats you like a poor old thing who needs to be wrapped in cotton batting and kept away from the dogs.

I see the worry in their eyes, and they treat me as if I am newly so fragile. My son came by himself just to do some yard work for me and to cook some dinners that I could freeze. But as much as I love being with them, it's so nice to come here where no one treats you like a poor old thing who needs to be wrapped in cotton batting and kept away from the dogs.

I know enough to be dangerous, and to keep my docs on their toes)
So I talked to the clinical trial nurse and it turns out that I was right about my first choice in a clinical trial - the drug is code-named MK-2206. My Dana Farber oncologist told me I didn't qualify because I was HER2/Neu negative. But there are many trials with this drug and the one I was interested in does not require you to be positive. In this case, she was wrong or forgot about this other trial. So now I have a plan and a back-up plan. MK-2206 may not have any openings. But if it does, I may do that one instead of ARQ-197. I'll go along with whichever one finds me a place first. If I get on MK-2206, it will involve a lot more Pinkie rides to Boston for the first few weeks, but I am confident that she can handle it with no problems!
I got the result of my CA 27.29 from last week - 89. It was 91 a month ago. And further review of my scans with my local oncologist indicated that I don't have any mets in my right lung nor any in my liver, some mets on the left side had shrunk a little, the biggest node in the axilla had grown. So it really was closer to stability than progression.
And my HbA1c came back at 6.0, so my diabetes is doing A-OK. Not bad considering all that Parisian bread and dessert made up a part of this result. And ice cream.

LOL! <br /> <br />I know enough to be dangerous, and to keep my docs on their toes <img src="http://img.webmd.com/community/images/wink.gif" align="top" border="0">)<br /> <br />So I talked to the clinical trial nurse and it turns out that I was right about my first choice in a clinical trial - the drug is code-named MK-2206. My Dana Farber oncologist told me I didn't qualify because I was HER2/Neu negative. But there are many trials with this drug and the one I was interested in does not require you to be positive. In this case, she was wrong or forgot about this other trial. So now I have a plan and a back-up plan. MK-2206 may not have any openings. But if it does, I may do that one instead of ARQ-197. I'll go along with whichever one finds me a place first. If I get on MK-2206, it will involve a lot more Pinkie rides to Boston for the first few weeks, but I am confident that she can handle it with no problems!<br /> <br />I got the result of my CA 27.29 from last week - 89. It was 91 a month ago. And further review of my scans with my local oncologist indicated that I don't have any mets in my right lung nor any in my liver, some mets on the left side had shrunk a little, the biggest node in the axilla had grown. So it really was closer to stability than progression. <br /> <br />And my HbA1c came back at 6.0, so my diabetes is doing A-OK. Not bad considering all that Parisian bread and dessert made up a part of this result. And ice cream.
