The drug is administered in three week cycles, and I will take it orally twice a day...for as long as it works. This will work with our trip to Hawaii and so I am extremely happy that Dr. Chen agreed that this was a good one for me. It seems clinical trials are all about timing - showing up at the right time when a trial is opening or about to open and meeting the inclusion criteria. Lots of bloodwork and scans, but I see that as a good thing - someone is keeping very close tabs on this nasty beast.
The trial should be starting in the next two weeks, so I will be waiting impatiently for the clinical trial nurse to call me with the details and answer any questions. My oncologist gave me a copy of the consent form with all the info about the trial, and it seems it's a pretty mild drug. The most common side effect is fatigue and the usual low blood counts.
So...thanks everyone for going with me today and making it a fun trip to Boston! The weather and traffic cooperated and I enjoyed the cocktail service in our cute new glasses. And nice navigating, Rachael! Boston can be so tricky!
Oh I really must show you this...we had dinner in a Russian restaurant in Brookline, very near Dana Farber. It was so good, and the plates were presented beautifully:

Lamb chops with the freshest, most gorgeous veggies!

I am so proud of you for being a pioneer! Everyone that
does a clinical trial gets us closer to better treatments!
I really hope this works for you.
I hope we gave you a good time on "Pinkie". I saw the
other day we had quite an assortment of thing to bring
with us. Including Cabana boys!! LOL
Dinner looks yummy!
Hugs,
Cindy
So glad to hear that your doctor found a clinical trial that fits so well. And allows for the trip to Hawaii. I would be anxious too to go ahead and get started. I'm glad that you were able to enjoy the trip to Boston. Loved the picture of your dinner, it looks like art work. I never would have thought of trying a Russian restaurant. I'm not very adventurous in culinary matters, but am glad to say that my children are. They would have been drawn to that restaurant too.
After my trip to Duke yesterday, it looks as though I may be able to go to France with my family. Just have to be less active than I'd like, no strenuous hikes.
All the best to Michelle,
Janie
I have an idea to try cuisine from all around the world. We probably have every ethnic variety here in the Boston metropolitan area. Looking forward to more dining adventures!

You rock girl!!!!!!!!!!!
Kow impressed am I with you being a part of a clinical trial - they are so important!
I wish more women were like you and thought about being part of clinical trials.
Congratulations and thank you for helping all of us!
Much love,
Judy
I'll reiterate what a comfort it is to come here. I had dinner last night at my daughter's house, my son visiting too from Raleigh. I see the worry in their eyes, and they treat me as if I am newly so fragile. My son came by himself just to do some yard work for me and to cook some dinners that I could freeze. I thought this was incredibly sweet. But as much as I love being with them, it's so nice to come here where no one treats you like a poor old thing who needs to be wrapped in cotton batting and kept away from the dogs.
All the best to you, Michelle
Janie
Oh, Michelle, I am so delighted that you not only found a drug trial, but one that seems a good fit for you! Hurray!!
And you will be able to go on your trip as well! Talk about the cherry on the sundae!
I don't think I need to add how proud of youi we are, how much we are in your corner, and how we will be sending all sorts of good vibes as well as prayers your direction! Any time Pinkie is needed, give a nod...(Seems you see what a greart navigator I am witrh Pinkie, right?!
And, if along the way in Boston (or in Hawaii or wherever) you should need a dinner companion, I'm your gal!!
I love to try new foods...I love to EAT!...and if the dessert is chocolate, so much the better!!
Blessins.

What a treasure your family must be! To tend to you so well and so lovingly! That is a gift not everyone has, but one which might tend to make one feel a loss of control. When it ever becomes a bit challenging to you, I am so glad you can find solace and camarade here with us. A "cotton-batting-free" zone!!!
Blessings,

I am so happy to hear about this clinical trial for you and it being a good fit. And YAY that it won't interfere with your trip. How awesome - Hawaii!!! How long are you staying there?
Janie, this site has been a tremendous comfort for me too. We here understand what its like to just want to be treated "normal" sometimes. Although, take whatever help you can get - family and friends can really be a blessing of help during this time!
How awesome you are going off to France - I know Michelle had a great experience on her recent trip there. I think we should add wings to Pinkie and all go!!!!
happy Monday ladies ~
Jenna
Pinkie is fully equiped with wings (flight) and runners (snow) and pontoons (water) and mudflaps and tank treads and whatever might be needed...Absolutely NOTHING will ever stop her or us when it comes to escorting our members...
Or when it comes to sharing and enjoying their vacations!!!
Blessings... and Bon Voyages... Always!

One question: Did you understand most of it??? Cause I sure didn't. So technical. WOW.
I will be aboard Pinkie to cheer you on. Perhaps I should be in charge of the cabana boys as Rachael will be mighty busy tending to her driving or flying. Glad we can share in your vacation to Hawaii. Awesome.
Hugs.
Jan
We so enjoyed our trip with Michelle and her family. "Pinkie" loves to go on vacations and fun-loving trips.

Jan
Pinkie dearly loves to go on vacations. We all have a super time.
Rachael, you sure you are up to flying to France again and then to Hawaii??? That means gallons of coffee for you, my friemd. Have to keep those eyes open. LOL.
Let's all go Party---Hardy.
Congrats to both Michelle and Janie their trips are a go.

I know enough to be dangerous, and to keep my docs on their toes
)So I talked to the clinical trial nurse and it turns out that I was right about my first choice in a clinical trial - the drug is code-named MK-2206. My Dana Farber oncologist told me I didn't qualify because I was HER2/Neu negative. But there are many trials with this drug and the one I was interested in does not require you to be positive. In this case, she was wrong or forgot about this other trial. So now I have a plan and a back-up plan. MK-2206 may not have any openings. But if it does, I may do that one instead of ARQ-197. I'll go along with whichever one finds me a place first. If I get on MK-2206, it will involve a lot more Pinkie rides to Boston for the first few weeks, but I am confident that she can handle it with no problems!
I got the result of my CA 27.29 from last week - 89. It was 91 a month ago. And further review of my scans with my local oncologist indicated that I don't have any mets in my right lung nor any in my liver, some mets on the left side had shrunk a little, the biggest node in the axilla had grown. So it really was closer to stability than progression.
And my HbA1c came back at 6.0, so my diabetes is doing A-OK. Not bad considering all that Parisian bread and dessert made up a part of this result. And ice cream.
